Free Entry | Good to Go | Frosty Forays

Hear ye! Hear ye! Mongolia hath no visa! Effective immediately and until the end of 2025, the government of Mongolia have scrapped visa requirements for all UK, European, NZ & Australian citizens, increasing the total number of visa-free countries to 61, no less (and no more). More flights and routes have also been added via Frankfurt, Istanbul, Seoul, Tokyo and Hong Kong, making it easier than ever to come and experience the wondrous wilderness landscapes of Chinggis Khaan's homeland. Don't delay, plan your Mongolia trip today!

Good To Go

Our expertly-crafted selection of small group tours are the perfect cost-effective antidote to modern life - taking you to a wondrous wilderness far removed from work worries, the spiralling cost of existence, the drudgery of media doom-scrolling & your addiction to 24/7 connectivity. Add to this the cold, wet, abstinent hell of January, and clearly the only way to extricate yourself from the jaws of despair is to stump up a small deposit and book on one of our amazing Mongolia Group Tours.

Winter Escapes

If you are itching to get away sooner for that winter sun and snow, and some unique adventures of a lifetime, look no further than our imminent departures of specialist-led journeys to Mongolia's frosted extremities. Take the reins of eager hounds on a dog-sled bounding across the glistening frozen Lake Khovsgol, staying in nomad winter camps & teepees and dabbling in a bit of ice-fishing on our Dog-Sledding Adventure (2 places left on our 9 March & 15 April departures); join renowned BBC photographer Timothy Allen on his Migration of the Eagle Hunters expedition alongside a nomadic family as they migrate with livestock through the Altai Mountains to their spring pastures, culminating in an ice archery festival; travel to the remote border area of Asgat Mountain to track snow leopards and other fabled wildlife on our inaugural Tracks of the Altai.

Current Travel Rules - 7th February 2022

Mongolia is now open to travellers, although the only border point currently allowing visitors is the main airport in Ulaanbaatar.

Foreigners can enter Mongolia free of restrictions but must present a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of travel (from time of 1st point of embarkation). The Mongolian authorities also retain the right to test arrivals – either on an ad hoc/random basis, or by reintroducing mandatory testing for all arrivals. However, both of these have recently been suspended, but could be reintroduced without warning. All passengers should be aware of the possibility of mandatory or selective testing on arrival, and testing charges may apply and may be charged.

Please note that many third-party websites do not have updated current regulations, so best to check directly with us or with Mongolian authorities rather than relying on information from travel advisory websites or foreign governments.

Most airlines have resumed scheduled flights and almost all have full timetables for summer 2022. Embassies have also begun issuing tourist visas again for those nationalities who require them, but please contact your local embassy for up-to-date information.

Citizens of 25 countries are currently exempt from having to apply for a tourist visa, and this list is here - https://www.consul.mn/eng/index.php?moduls=23

Visa on arrival is also available, by pre-arrangement and pre-approval (which can be organised through us), if you are coming from a country which has no Mongolian Embassy or Consular services/visa provision.

Mongolia is also moving towards online visas (evisa.mn) but this is in trial stage and has teething problems so current advice is to continue with the existing method of visa application.

Of course we can't forget to recognise International Dog Day 2021! 🐕

A trip to the Mongolian countryside would almost have to be considered incomplete if you haven't seen the beautiful Mongolian Bankhar dog (very similar to a Tibetan Mastiff).

These giant, fluffy, bear-like dogs can be found around most nomadic family homesteads, and act as a great protector for the families and their livestock from wild threats including wolves and snow leopards... when they're not sleeping 😴

Did you know, Ulaanbaatar has a monument for the famous British band The Beatles.

This bizarre attraction, which sits right opposite the State Department Store, finds itself in Mongolia as a symbol of where young Mongolians would gather and listen to forbidden western music during communist times.

It is one of 20 'Cool, Hidden and Unusual Things To Do' in Mongolia by Atlas Obscura.

A hike up to see Khavtsgait Petroglyphs is a must when visiting the Gobi Desert in southern Mongolia. The ancient rock art is still clearly visible some 4000-5000 years after they were created. The backdrop of the vast Desert isn't a bad reason to hike up to the petroglyphs either.

Taming horses is a vital part of nomadic Mongolian culture. It allows the nomads to create a bond with their horse, which is important not only to ride them when necessary, but also to train the horse for racing in local events such as Naadam.

We love to include authentic, cultural experiences like this on tours as much as possible.

With international travel non-existent for large parts of 2020, and this covering almost all of Mongolia's 2020 season, it is still unknown how this will affect ours, and other travel & hospitality companies' TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence.

So, if any of our wonderful past guests are yet to do so, any reviews left either on TripAdvisor and/or our page would be greatly appreciated, so that we can continue to show our future guests what they can expect once Mongolia's borders reopen and we get back to what we do best.

Did you know that throat-singing, which is thought to have originated in western Mongolia, was originally forbidden by the communist regimes of the first half of the 20th century, due to it's ritual and ethnic associations.

However, the incredibly difficult form of singing is now an established national art, and there's a good chance you'll be able to hear some on any of our fantastic tours!
