For Micronesians, the paddling canoe symbolizes who we are as an ocean-voyaging civilization. Throughout history, the canoe has meant sustenance, transportation, communication, and connection for our people.

The 24th Micronesia Cup in Saipan, The Marianas brings Micronesian teams together in celebrating this important part of our island heritage that continues to endure until this day. Stop by the beach at Crowne Plaza Resort Saipan on Oct. 18, 19, & 20 for some exciting races!

Kalabera Cave in Saipan, The Marianas, is known for its significance as a burial cave for ancient indigenous Chamorros and for the skull-like appearance of its entrance. “Kalabera” translates as “skull” in Chamorro and is derived from the Spanish word “calavera.” Kalabera Cave is also one of the few sites in The Marianas where Chamorro pictographs have been found.

The site recently got a facelift from the Marianas Visitors Authority and LJ’s Lawncare Service, who pressure washed the walkways for safety. And a BIG si Yu'us ma'ase, ghilisou, and thank you to LJ's for making tourism their business and cleaning the parking lot without charge! ♥️

There is only place in the world where you can find the endangered Marianas crow...on the island of Rota in The Marianas archipelago in the western Pacific.

Thanks to strong conservation efforts, we are bringing back this elusive species from the brink of extinction!

It's a multi-cultural Marianas Autumn Festival!

The Japanese Society of the Northern Mariana Islands hosts its annual Autumn Festival on Saturday, Oct. 26, featuring cultural games, delicious traditional food, and more, all happening at historic Sugar King Park in Garapan, Saipan!

Sugar King Park honors "Sugar King" Haruji Matsue, director of the South Seas Development Company that developed a bustling sugar industry in The Marianas during the Japanese administration era of the islands. Saipan Katori Shrine and a statue of Matsue can be found at the park. You can learn more about this period of Marianas history at the Northern Mariana Islands Museum of History & Culture right across the street.

Bringing Marianas Blue to Japan!

The Marianas Visitors Authority and our partners at HANMI-Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands and Japan-Saipan Travel Association joined representatives of other international countries and regions, businesses, and organizations at Tourism EXPO Japan 2024.

The expo - held on Sept. 26-29, in Tokyo - is one of the premiere travel expos across the globe.

After a series of typhoons had decimated food supplies in the low-lying Caroline Islands of Micronesia in the 1800s, Chief Aghurubw was one of the chiefs given permission by the then-Spanish administration to resettle his people in The Marianas.

Learn more about Carolinian culture at this weekend's Chief Aghurubw Day commemoration. Catch the ferry on Saturday (Sept. 28) for a special ceremony on stunning and historic Managaha, a short 15-minute boat ride from Saipan's shores. A big shout out to our school MYWAVE (Marianas Youth Welcome All Visitors Enthusiastically) club members and advisors gearing up for another great year of tourism activities!

Last week Marianas Tourism Education Council and the Marianas Visitors Authority met with advisors to share information and ideas. Thank you to the CNMI Public School System for partnering with us as we visit schools and teach about tourism, invite students to enhance our island home, celebrate tourism at the annual MTEC Tourism Summit, and more!

A warm si Yu'us ma'ase, olomwaay, and thank you to our brothers and sisters in Palau for joining with The Marianas in a bid to attract more athletes and attention to certified marathons in our beautiful Micronesia home!

The Marianas Visitors Authority, Palau Visitors Authority, and Palau Athletics have signed an MOU to promote, share information, and encourage participation in the Belau Omal Marathon – just held on Sept. 1 in Koror, Palau - and Saipan Marathon – slated for March 9, 2025, in The Marianas.
