Marina & Ibrahim are an international couple of 30 years and share a love for travel, history, culture, people and food. Originally from the Netherlands and Yemen respectively, they met in the United States and after that lived in the Netherlands, Tunisia, Malta and Canada. When living in Malta, they stumbled upon this tiny medieval house and instantly fell in love with it. In 20
21 they totally renovated the house for residential use and had it made available for tourists to enjoy this gem of character. Languages spoken: fluent in English, Dutch, German, Arabic. Some French and Maltese. ABOUT DAR BIRGU:
An approx. 500 year-old house of character which has been luxuriously restored to meet today's modern standards, yet retaining abundant traditional features for guests to enjoy a unique experience. Dar Birgu is a tiny, original medieval stone townhouse which is part of the national monument Auberge de France, built by the Order of Saint John in 1555. Before the current owners Marina & Ibrahim purchased the house, it served as a butcher shop named Hanut Tal-Laham. The property is in excellent condition with the original historic feel and modern, brand new amenities to call it your temporary get away home in Malta. Upon entrance you will find an open living area with a comfortable fullsize sofabed (living room) and TV. A beautiful, typical Maltese crafted stair case brings you to the bedroom with a full bed (160 x 200 cm), modern full shower, toilet & washbasin, laundry machine & dryer. A brand new bathroom with toilet & shower is built in the bedroom. The basement has beautifully preserved arches and holds a fully equipped kitchen with fridge, freezer, electric stove top and oven, wooden dining table with 4 chairs,
The basement can be reached from the living room by sturdy original stone steps and through a hall way that showcases an original water well. There is a separate, modern toilet with washbasin. Dar Birgu sleeps 4 guests comfortably and it is possible to stay in touch with your loved ones via high speed Wifi. All bed linen and towels are also provided. Amenities are all brand new and installed in 2022 after a complete renovation and upgrade of the house. The door, balcony and all windows in the house face the main street which is like a picture book street and quiet at night. LOCATION:
Dar Birgu is a 500 year old townhouse situated in the most famous and gorgeous street of Birgu in the medieval Knights Quarter (Collachio). The house is embedded Auberge de France, a grade 1 national monument with history dating back to the time of the Knights Hospitaller. The area is quaint, filled with beautiful and quiet streetscapes and brimming with character. The townhouse itself has plenty of authentic local features including thick stone walls and arches and a water well. It is an ideal place for a unique trip in the heart of a historical city. Vittoriosa, Senglea and Cospicua, known as the Three Cities of Malta, are pieces of living history kept alive by hundreds of years of preservation, and the occasional miracle. The fortified cities sit like a trio of villages in the heart of Malta's historic centre, directly across the Grand Harbour from Valletta. One can also enjoy the restaurants in the city and also at the Birgu waterfront, Cafes, Souvenir shops, Tourist sites and much more. Birgu, als known as "Il-Birgu" by the Maltese, is the City of Vittoriosa (Italian name) which has existed since prior to the Middle Ages. It is the most famous city of the Tricities of Malta and used to be the capital of Malta back in medieval times. It is overlooking the bastions and the Grand Harbour. It is a stone throw away to the main square, coffee shops and restaurants, harbor. PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION:
