As I was researching info on the ongoing works on the square, I came across this very interesting find. I hope they were preserved in some way. One of the main 'issues' encountered that hold back embellishment works in a place full of history is history itself and its preservation. But aren't we also extremely lucky to encounter the past?

🔦 [Vittoriosa] The stripping of Victory Square for its resurfacing has also brought to light an intriguing section of old* FLOOR TILES. • Geometrically patterned, this petite [former] residential space was sunk directly into the bedrock. *I am uncertain re. the tiles' approx. age; they do predate WW2. Do YOU recognise this pattern and its potential age? • The small, triangular plot which yielded further traces [more on this soon] lies at the convergence of St. Philip and St. Anton streets, in close proximity to the lost clock tower. © Marc Zimmermann

The Birgu Local Council has just cancelled October 2024's Birgufest unfortunately due to health and safety reasons due to the current regeneration works at the Birgu Main Square. I don't as yet have any more details as to whether some of the town will or will not be lit in candles. Regardless, October remains one of the best months to visit.

The world of food, art and politics came together in the ritual of Baroque Banqueting – the formal and communal sharing of food and drink. This is the subject of an exhibition currently running at the magnificent Inquisitor’s Palace in Birgu, focusing on the banqueting culture of Malta under the Order of St John.

27 of the best villas in Malta - The Times and The Sunday Times

"As Valletta gets busier and pricier, in-the-know travellers in search of a historic stay are hopping across the Grand Harbour to Birgu/Vittoriosa.

This Renaissance-inspired 16th-century property, aptly named Indulgence Divine, is a vibrant mix of ancient and modern tucked into Birgu’s labyrinth of medieval streets.

It is less than five minutes’ walk to the main square, Inquisitor’s Palace, Maritime Museum and Malta at War Museum, and ten minutes to the nation’s oldest castle, Fort St Angelo."
