Our marketing and communications team had the opportunity to travel aboard our Falcon 50 DFS to the city of Budapest. We are excited to share with you the stunning photos they captured during their visit. Here are some interesting details about the landmarks they visited:
The Hungarian Parliament, is a symbol of Budapest and Hungarian independence. This Neo-Gothic building on the Danube is the seat of the National Assembly and houses the Crown of Saint Stephen. It is also a major tourist site, reflecting Hungarian history and democracy.
The Fishermen’s Bastion is an iconic Neo-Romanesque monument in Budapest. Located on Buda Hill, it offers panoramic views of the city and the Danube. This historic site, with its seven towers symbolizing the Magyar tribes, is adjacent to Matthias Church and is famous for its picturesque terraces and fairy-tale architecture.
The Shoes on the Danube Bank is a poignant memorial dedicated to Hungarian Jews who were shot at the riverbank during World War II by the Arrow Cross, a Hungarian fascist group. Victims were forced to remove their shoes before being executed, their bodies falling into the Danube. Designed by sculptor Gyula Pauer and filmmaker Can Togay in 2005, it consists of 60 pairs of forged iron shoes.
Matthias Church was built in the 13th century in a Gothic style. Many Hungarian kings were crowned here, including Charles IV, the last king of Hungary, in 1916. Named after King Matthias, one of Hungary’s greatest kings, the statue in front of Matthias Church is of Saint Stephen, the first king of Hungary. The statue depicts the king on horseback holding the apostolic cross and stands on a richly decorated pedestal with bas-reliefs of scenes from Saint Stephen’s life.
