A Dog is a Man's Best Friend... or should be.

Earlier this month, as part of our CSR, we organised an auction at the office with the support of our local partners who donated a variety of services. All proceeds going towards Noah’s Ark, a local animal shelter. We are proud to share we collected a fabulous total of 720€. In cooperation with the very supportive Borg Cardona Pet Supplies we were able to purchase 2 pallets (600kg) of dog food for the shelter.

This morning the pallets were delivered and some of the team went over to visit and spend time with a couple of undesired, but very adoptable doggies. We even think that one of these lovely doggies fell in love and adopted our John instead (check the pictures for proof!).

Thank You to our partners who donated and to our small Team for going deeeeep into your pockets.

Some of the lovelies we met this morning;

1. Rocky, a male Staffie Mix who has unfortunately gone blind. An eye surgery can repair his sight, but these surgeries are not done in Malta. Although being a lovely dog, being from a ‘difficult to adopt breed’, he will probably remain the rest of his life in a shelter because, who wants to adopt a blind dog on top, right?

2. Arthur, a male young (probably less then a year) Pointer mix who was found dumped. Since he was not chipped, he was left to roam the streets by those who should have protected him. That is, until he got run over by a car and brought into Noah’s Ark. He is doing so well and has such a lovely, sweet character. Let’s hope he will not spend his remaining life in a cage.

3. Aahh, Miss Emily. She took to John as a duck (*dog) to water from the moment she laid her eyes on him. Love at first sight. Mixed, smaller-sized dog and such a cuddle-bug... Let’s see if our John returns for a second date 😉...

This week Malta celebrates an important day, which also brings our summer (feast) season to a close

Victory Day is a public holiday celebrated on the 8th September and recalls the end of three historical sieges made on the Maltese archipelago
• The Great Siege of Malta by the Ottoman Empire ending in 1565
• The Siege of Valletta by the French Blockade ending in 1800
• The Siege of Malta during the Second World War by the Axis forces ending in 1943.

This day also coincides with the commemoration of the birth of the Virgin Mary, better known as the Nativity of Mary, which is celebrated in the villages of , and in Malta, and in .

The traditional featuring boat races in the Harbour is also held on Victory Day.

 The feast of Santa Marija – The feast of the Assumption of our Lady is celebrated on the 15th of August and does not only mark the date for yet another religious feast.

 It is regarded as a miraculous day for the Maltese population back in 1942, when symbolically, the final surviving ship from a convoy of 14 entered the Grand Harbour and brought in much needed fuel and oil, which Malta heavily relied on. Once all was unloaded, the ship sank to the bottom. All the memorabilia is documented in our National War Museum in Fort St. Elmo.

 This day is deeply embedded into the hearts of the Maltese population as the peak of the Maltese feasts on the island, where most offices and retail outlets close for a week of holidays.

 Six parishes celebrate this feast over the Maltese islands; Għaxaq, Gudja, Attard, Mosta, Qrendi and Rabat, Gozo.
