February is usually a quiet month for tourism in Malta… so we decided to make it slightly busier! 😂
💙 Merill kicked-off as an ecotourism venture 13 years ago, and over the years we have worked alongside a lot of people within the rural community empowering and guiding them to diversify their activities through tourism, in a sustainable way.
⚙️ After more than a decade of nurturing relationships, we felt that our members were finally ready to host tourism operators, not just to promote their activities but more importantly to share the philosophy behind our social enterprise.
😍 The first edition of the Merill FAM Week has simply been an AWESOME one. It was exciting and rewarding to see so many operators keen on appreciating 'local', savouring 'quality', while embracing 'authenticity'; with all the opportunities and limitations that these three terms bring along!
🙏🏻 A huge thanks to all the tourism and cultural operators who got involved to learn more about the network. Our appreciation also goes to @maltaruraltours who took care of the logistics - together with their dedicated Rural Guides. Last but not least, thanks to our members for trusting us and being so committed towards our collective goal - 'Conservation through Leisure!

Back in May 2022, the family at Tan-Nixxiegħa Olive Grove had the pleasure of hosting some members from USTOA (United States Tour Operators Association). This is a professional, voluntary trade association which aims to promote integrity within the tour operator industry.
Since #integrity is one of the principles that drives us in our daily activities, it was a pleasure to collaborate with Malta Rural Tours and bring in our members to introduce them to the community and share our values with like-minded people from the other side of the world!
We are sure that this was a great opportunity for guests to understand how quality rural tourism in Malta has been developed over the past decade, and we wholeheartedly thank Exclusively Malta Travel & Mediterranean Food Experiences for fully believing in our members since day one!

🎇 And here we are, 2022 is coming to an end... and it's time to celebrate the past year and look forward to the next!
🤝 2022 has been an important year for Merill and for people who are at the heart of the social enterprise. Thanks to the opportunity COVID-19 presented us with, Merill's voice started getting louder and we saw the impact of 12 years of relentless activity.
🏅 We got involved in a couple of European Projects revolving around sustainable tourism and we've been recognised as first-runner up as 'Leaders in Quality Tourism' by the Malta Business Awards.
👫 We hosted 11 wonderful students from all over Europe and we know that most of them will make good use of the principles learnt in Malta, catalysing Merill's effect in their own countries.
🧑🌾 Our network has kept growing thanks to our commitment and partnership with Malta Rural Tours, who allowed us to evolve further and focus even more on the rural community.
❤ We would like to thank all the people who have trusted us over the past year: be it for an internship, for a membership, or anything else, you must know that your contribution has been really appreciated.

Farmers need to get even more together and speak up; Contractors need to be more responsible with all the surface area contributing to water runoff; and authorities need to take bold actions!
