Royal Naval Association - Malta Branch

Royal Naval Association - Malta Branch Welcome to the Royal Naval Association (RNA), Malta Branch. Our Committee meets on the first Tuesday of every month at the Malta Royal British Legion at 18:00.

The association members are made up of both British and Maltese nationals who served their time with the Royal Navy over many years and we always welcome new members. The meeting times change during the summer months of July, August and September so please check our ‘page’ for meeting dates during this period. If you are RN (retired) and living in Malta, whatever your age, please come dow

n and meet with us some time and get a feel for how we do things ‘The Maltese Way’. We are here to bring together retired members of the Royal Navy, both young and old, and share stories, remember old friends and talk about the good times we all had during our time in the service. We also host social events throughout the year, and always welcome visiting ships of the RN to Malta. The bar of the Royal British Legion is open from 08:30 till mid-afternoon, and from 18:00 till late Monday to Friday, 08:30 to 21:00 Saturday and 10:00 to 21:00 Sunday. During each year we hold various commemoration and remembrance services, in particular:
• The RNA remembrance service which is normally held some time from the end of April to the beginning of May, at the RNA Memorial Gardens, Pieta, which is the old Torpedo Depot.
• Another significant remembrance is that of ‘Operation Pedestal’ and the arrival of SS Ohio on the Feast of Santa Maria, 15th August 1942. This service is normally held as near to this date as possible.
• Visitors are also welcome to march or just attend the Annual National Remembrance Service at the War Memorial in Floriana which is normally held on the nearest Sunday to the 11th November. Volunteers are also always needed for the Poppy Appeal during the weeks leading up to this event. The confirmation dates for these and all other services will be posted on our ‘page’ as soon as we get them. If you are visiting Malta for whatever reason whether you are still serving or not and want to catch up for a drink, or need assistance on where to stay, places to see etc., we will certainly do our best to help you all we can. Also, if you know of anybody you served with who could be living in Malta and you would like to come over to reunite with them, let us know and we can see if we can track your colleague(s) down and try and assist in making your reunion a very special one. If you are visiting Malta on a Royal Navy ship, please feel free to contact us with details of your arrival, if possible, so maybe we can arrange a social event with the crew and discuss what the crew might like to do during their spare time whilst the ship is here. Malta can cater for just about anything from historical visits (and believe us there is plenty of that to see) and sightseeing tours, to recreational activities, diving, water sports etc. And for those who just want to relax, Malta has nine Blue Flag beaches with beautiful crystal blue waters to swim in, and fantastic bars and restaurants.
