If you’re looking for a truly authentic Maltese experience, be sure to visit Il-kazin tal-banda, the local band clubs located in every town across Malta and Gozo.
Dating back to the 19th century, they were initially set up as community spaces and later started to perform as bands for the village festas. Historically, they became key places of political activism, with the Sette Giugno uprising being organised by a network of band clubs. Today, the band clubs are more of a social hub, providing a space for community events, musical education and a place generally for locals to relax.
With their stunning, historic interiors, they are a beautiful glimpse into Maltese culture and life during British rule. Plan your visit during the town's festa to hear the band play, or simply drop by anytime for a drink.
