The Great Siege of 1565 was a bloody conflict, claiming the lives of many knights. Though these knights were originally buried in Fort St. Angelo, they were later moved to St. John’s cemetery.

Until this very day, the cathedral’s beautiful flooring displays a multitude of such burial masterpieces for everyone to see.

Il Merkanti - A definitely Must-Visit in Valletta!

We recently dined at Il Merkanti with a large family group, and it was nothing short of exceptional. The restaurant offers an incredible selection of local Maltese and Mediterranean dishes, each cooked to perfection and served promptly.
The variety on the menu is impressive, and every dish we tried was flawless.

The wine list is extensive, offering delicious options to pair perfectly with any meal. As for desserts, they are so tempting and delicious, it’s hard to resist!

The staff at Il Merkanti truly elevates the experience. Everyone was attentive, and Jake, the owner, is a humble and respectful presence, adding a personal touch that makes this place unique.

We give Il Merkanti a 20/10 for the exceptional service and unforgettable dining experience.

Whether you’re looking for lunch or dinner, we highly recommend Il Merkanti, located on the top floor of the food market on Merchant Street.

Baroque artist Caravaggio spent a few years in Malta and painted one of his most famous works, The Beheading of St. John.

Caravaggio’s prominent use of light and shade are displayed perfectly in the painting, which can be witnessed first-hand at St. John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta.

Papannis Restaurant Review

Yesterday, we dined at Papannis Restaurant in Valletta, and it was an unforgettable experience. Situated on Strait Street, it’s very easy to find, making it a convenient choice for both locals and visitors. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, perfect for an intimate evening or a casual night out.

I had the Salmon Wellington, and it was absolutely to die for—perfectly cooked salmon wrapped in a golden, flaky pastry. My wife had the Salmon La Maltese, and she found it excellent, with fresh ingredients and perfectly balanced flavors. We paired our meal with a bottle of Falanghina wine, which was so delicious and refreshing.

The service was exceptional. Graziella, our waitress, was incredibly sweet and dedicated to her job—you could tell right away. The owner, Jake, is generous and humble, making you feel welcome and eager to return. His brother, Joshua, was equally kind and attentive, adding to the restaurant’s charm.

Papannis is just one of their family-owned restaurants. If you’re in Valletta, they also run Il Merkanti on the top floor of the food market, and if you’re up for a drive, Merkanti Village in Had Dingli specializes in Maltese cuisine.

We suggest booking ahead, as this spot is popular with good reason! I am attaching a 20/10 review—yes, 20/10, as they definitely deserve this rating for their hard work, dedication, and determination to take this business to the next level. I’ll also include some photos of their menu at Papannis.

I highly recommend Papannis Restaurant to all our guests, friends, and followers for a memorable dining experience in Valletta.

A Cozy Gem in Valletta – Kir Royal Café

Kir Royal Café is the perfect spot for anyone looking for a cozy, welcoming atmosphere in the heart of Valletta. The café is full of comfortable seating areas, making it easy to relax with a cup of coffee or tea in an ambiance that instantly brightens your day. The vibe is infectious—positive people, friendly clients, and a staff that welcomes you with open arms. The decor is thoughtfully designed, with soft music playing in the background to add to the relaxing atmosphere.

Service here is impressively quick and attentive. The staff is incredibly friendly, and the owner, Lee Garrard, makes sure that everyone feels like they’re in the right place from the moment they step in. His warm hospitality is one of the reasons this café has such a loyal customer base. You’ll find yourself returning again and again, thanks to the welcoming energy that flows throughout the café.

The food and beverage selection is also top-notch. Whether you’re in the mood for wraps, fresh bread, pies, croissants, or cookies, there’s something for everyone. And the coffee? In my opinion, it’s the best in Valletta—rich, flavorful, and expertly brewed.

As for pricing, it’s quite reasonable, especially considering the high quality of the food, drinks, and service. We at Valletta Apartments 19 highly recommend Kir Royal Café. It’s conveniently located in the top part of St. Paul Street, making it an ideal spot for friends, family, or even business meetings.

With its positive energy, excellent service, and great location, we rate Kir Royal a perfect 10/10. Thank you, Lee, for creating such a wonderful place. It’s a true reflection of your passion and effort!

Located at the top level of the food market in Merchant Street, Valletta, Merkanti delivers an outstanding dining experience. From the moment you arrive, the friendly and attentive staff make you feel welcome. Special thanks to Jake and Joshua for their exceptional, professional service.

The food is absolutely fantastic—fresh, flavorful, and with a menu that offers a great variety of options. Whether you’re in for lunch or dinner, Merkanti is an excellent choice. The atmosphere is wonderfully relaxing, making it a perfect spot to unwind.

Wine lovers will be especially pleased with the extensive wine selection that never disappoints. And for dessert, you simply can’t miss the imqaret (dates served with ice cream) and other delicious sweet treats.

Overall, we rate Merkanti a 10/10 for their attention to detail, excellent food, and warm service. A must-visit for anyone looking for a great meal in Valletta!
