Our ambassador Berne are supporting Friends of the Earth Malta with the launch of their creative zine 'Imagining a Fossil Free Malta', which Berne contributed to.

Join us today Thursday 9th January at 7pm at Storeroom Ta' Xbiex! The zine brings together the hopeful visions by artists, writers, poets, musicians, children and other creatives, showing how they imagine a fossil free future for Malta.

Some highlights from our and crossCert Project stakeholder engagement event "Energy transition: the role of the building sector in Malta" held on the 18th October 2024.

The event included a site visit at Valletta Design Cluster as a best practice of building energy renovation followed by a roundtable at The Embassy Valletta Hotel and part of MIEMA's activities the crossCert project, funded under H2020.

Hailey Ciantar is a passionate and dedicated Maltese climate activist who has made significant strides in environmental advocacy from a young age. Inspired by the documentary Before the Flood, she co-founded Malta's first-ever Green Council and pursued a law degree to influence environmental policy. At 18, she was appointed by the European Commission as an EU Bioeconomy Youth Ambassador. In this capacity, she translated a children's book on bioeconomy into Maltese, simplifying complex concepts for younger generations and highlighting the importance of sustainability education. She also launched the world’s first podcast dedicated to bioeconomy, Bioeconomy Matters, which highlights the presence of bioeconomy in various sectors and reaches audiences globally.

Hailey's commitment to climate action and sustainability is recognised internationally, and she continues to inspire through her speaking engagements and her role as an EU Climate Pact Ambassador. Her belief in the power of collective action drives her ongoing work to create lasting change for our planet.

As the EU Climate Pact Ambassador in Malta, Hans collaborates with SUNx Malta and the Malta Tourism Authority to promote Climate Friendly Travel throughout Europe and globally.

In his role as Registrar, he manages a growing global registry of hotels, tour operators, and tourism companies dedicated to climate action and sustainability. His efforts are driving the tourism sector towards greener and more responsible practices.

Thank you to all the speakers, ambassadors and participants that were with us last Monday 23rd September for the Cities Go Climate Neutral multiplier event and workshop: Digital Tools for City Decarbonisation.

The event brought together around 30 key stakeholders from local and regional authorities, EU Climate Pact Ambassadors, NGOs, academia and citizens, and focused on different tools and best practices that can be applied to make Maltese and European cities more sustainable.

MIEMA is organising the "Own Your SECAP" Session on Local Energy Planning on Monday 23rd September 2024. The session will be held during the national event dedicated to achieving carbon neutrality in cities, organised through the Cities Go Climate Neutral project, funded under the Erasmus+ Programme.

The event aims to bring together local councils, EU Climate Pact ambassadors and stakeholders to present tools, methodologies and best practices to make our cities more sustainable and resilient to climate change.

The Cities Go Climate Neutral event will include 3 sessions:

1) Presentation of the results of the Cities Go Climate Neutral Erasmus+ Project (13:00 - 14:15)
2) Own Your SECAP – Session on Local Energy Planning (14:15 - 15:15)
3) Workshop session: Digital Tools for City Decarbonisation (15:30 - 17:30)

MIEMA organised a "Sustainable Food Practices" Capacity Building Event as part of its activities addressed towards ambassadors and community members.

The session was held on Wednesday 17th July 2024 at The Veg Box in Manikata and included interventions by Emanuela De Giorgio, Founder at The Farmoury and Pact Ambassador Matthew Baldacchino, who shared their experience with different aspects of sustainable food practices.

Let us keep in mind that food sustainability is not just about the food itself, but a combination of factors including production, distribution, packaging and consumption!

Some tips for making more sustainable food choices :)
- Buy local, seasonal foods when possible
- Reduce food waste and store / freeze leftover food
- Include more plant-based meals in your diet
- Make an effort to know what sustainable packaging is and try to choose products with such packaging
- Re-use plastic packaging as much as possible.
