Today marks the opening of the renowned Wirja ta' Santa Marija, an agricultural and industrial exhibition in Victoria Gozo, that has been captivating visitors since its inception in 1855. 🥦🍉🍅
This Gozitan traditional exhibition is spread over 3 days on the 13th, 14th and 15th August at the Villa Rundle Gardens in Victoria, Gozo. This year’s show boasts an impressive array of more than 4,000 exhibits of Gozitan produce, livestock, poultry, vegetables, songbirds, farm machinery, artisan works, local wines, honey, oils and much more. Whilst traditional folklore activities are held during the opening hours.
Originally tied to the agricultural calendar, the 15th of August was historically the date when farmers paid their land lease, known as "qbiela." This date has since been a fixed date for the Agrarian Show, a highlight of the Santa Marija Feast.
Event Schedule:
🍃Tuesday, 13th August: 5:15pm - 11pm - Exhibits open to the public.
🍃Wednesday, 14th August: 10:00am - 11pm - Exhibits open, featuring static displays of crafts, fruit, vegetables, birds, and poultry. rabbit show competition, traditional ghana with local folk singers and guitarists.
🍃Thursday, 15th August: 7:00am - 1:00pm- Exhibits and competitions, presentation of trophies and prizes for the best exhibits in each category.
