Slip into the water and what can you hear?

There is something quite soothing about the lack of sound under the surface. The calm and clarity that comes during a snorkelling or diving session.

But occasionally there is that rush of excitement when you do hear something – the whistles and clicks of a pod of dolphins.

If you’re lucky, you can listen to their incredibly intelligent underwater chatter going back and forth as they zip playfully through the deep blue.

Have you seen our pretty pink jewellery?

Trochetia boutoniana is the national flower of Mauritius and it’s known as boucle d’oreille in French – earrings!

This photo was taken in the upland wet forest of Pétrin and the species is classed as critically endangered on the IUCN list. The flowers can be seen between June and October and are pollinated by our island’s bright-green phelsuma geckos.
