Have you ever seen a leopard on safari?

Kennedy Vlei in Hwange is an excellent place to see these beautiful animals. Whilst staying at The Hide, Zimbabwe Safari Lodge a couple years ago, we managed to spot this beautiful girl as she walked into the vlei, rolled around on an ant mound for a few minutes and wandered back to the thickets.

Bumbusi Wilderness Camp

In early September, Liz and I were invited, with Steve Taylor from Askari Safari, to visit Bumbusi Camp. This little gem is situated in the far northern part of Hwange National Park, midway between Robins and Sinamatella Camps. It’s a 1 and a half hour game drive transfer from Robins, via Croc poo...

We’re excited to share with you that we are taking a trip to Nehimba on Wednesday.

Nehimba sits firmly on the edge of the mopane woodlands associated with the north of Hwange National Park and the kalahari sandveld of the South and West. All the diversity of Hwange's fauna and flora is within easy reach on this private concession.

There are 9 large separate raised thatched tents including a Honeymoon Suite and 2 Family Suites.
All the thatched tents have a private balcony, en-suite bathroom, outdoor shower, hot running water and electricity by solar.
We’re dying to get there and share updates with you later in the week.

A tribute to the late Prince Philip.

Our co-founder Chris Worden hosted the Duke of Edinburgh in the dry season of 1991 at his Safari camp in Matusadona, Zimbabwe.
Chris remembers the one morning very well whilst they were breakfasting el fresco style and a herd of elephants walked past the camp. Chris said “Sir take a look at the elephants”.
Prince Philips reply was not one Chris was expecting, but one he would remember 30 years later;
“Don’t worry I have seen hundreds of elephants on this trip, but your black pudding is the best I’ve ever tasted.”

Chris is very proud of his cooking and still makes his black pudding every weekend with pride.
It is the small things in life that some may remember and one kind word can change someones day, or entire life. May he rest in peace.

“Sometimes we get so caught up in trying to accomplish something big, that we fail to notice the little things that give life its magic” - unknown.

David Livingstone was born 208 years ago today on the 19 March 1813, in the industrial town of Blantyre, 8 miles from Glasgow.
Today the largest city in Malawi is called Blantyre, named in honour of the birthplace of David Livingstone.
Exactly 207 years and 364 days after Livingstone was born, we proudly incorporated our company with the famous Scottish Missionaries name.

Today we celebrate World Wildlife Day, this day is about celebrating and raising awareness of the worlds wild animals and plants. So let’s take this opportunity to celebrate the widely varied forms of fauna and flora we still have, as well as those of which are no longer around.

Let’s remember the pressing need to increase the fight against wildlife crimes and the far reaching negative impacts they have.

Let’s hear the needs of those who work on the frontline for wildlife conservation as well of those who action everyday to make a difference, so one day our children can hopefully see the animals and plants that we so greatly appreciate.

HAPPY WORLD WILDLIFE DAY

“ If we can teach people about wildlife, they will be touched. Share my wildlife with me. Because humans want to save things that they love” - Steve Irwin

The story behind this photo is quite ‘controversial‘ in a way. The green or wet season is meant to ‘hide’ all the animals in essence. However, we have undertaken two weeks of travelling during this wet season. Of which we have seen fantastic animal sightings, including having two encounters with this very pride (attached photo) which we had lurking around the camp for a total of nine full days. We have had full week of a skulk of bat eared foxes, as well as cheetah and leopard sightings (to name a few). We had these sightings all to ourselves with no other vehicles around (much the same pre-COVID wet season).

Emphasising that even though the wet season is not peak season, you can still see amazing animals.
Lesson to learn here would be connected to that of of the Dalai Lama’s quote - “Once a year, go somewhere you’ve never been before”.

The way we interpret it is, step out of your comfort zone and do something different. Just because there is a possibility of you being unable to travel in the most recommended time of the year, doesn’t mean you shouldn't consider it. Get in touch and see if the wet season suits your travel requirements.
