The charming term gris gris often brings to mind 'black magic,' and when you gaze upon the winding coastline, it’s easy to see how this enchanting area earned its name. There’s also a delightful tale that suggests the beach got its name from a little puppy belonging to a French cartographer who came to visit way back in 1753.
Gris-Gris is famous for its breathtaking sea cliffs, offering visitors a stunning view from the top—this is truly a sight you won’t want to miss! Unlike other parts of the island, this area isn't surrounded by coral reefs, allowing the powerful waves to crash directly against the cliffs, sending up magnificent sprays of water.
At the southern tip of Gris-Gris, you’ll discover a fantastic viewpoint where you can watch the waves crash against the rugged cliffs. There’s a lovely little garden where you can find several peaceful spots to unwind on one of the inviting benches while soaking in the beauty of the sea, the waves, and the rocky cliffs. A charming path from the garden leads down to a small beach, where you can get a closer look at the captivating ocean. Although the soft white sandy beach is beautiful, it’s best to admire the waves from shore, as the currents can be quite strong—perfect for a leisurely stroll and enjoying the magnificent scenery.
