Mexico can be many things for authenticity seeking global travelers. Do you have the imaginations to dream beyond the all-inclusive resort walls? Here are some ideas to reframe your autheticity search.

Thanks for reading (and sharing if you see fit). I’ve been searching for this answer over my 40 years in Mexico tourism. And I’m still at it, exploring a “world...

I'm proud to be an investor in a remarkable distilled beverage line, tied to Mexico's ancient gift to the world: Maiz. Organic ancient Maize springing forth from heirloom seed lines, sprouted & distilled to become a family of spirits—naturally gluten-free, free of congeners, free of artificial flavors or colors, and rich in polyphenols. Coming this Fall. Here's what we are all about:

An Ancient History ZEA Spirits Story Thousands of years ago, the indigenous Otomi peoples of the Americas harnessed the extraordinary potential of ZEA and transformed it into a staple food source. Through their ingenuity and reverence for nature, they unveiled secrets—hidden flavors, even the very...

Is Mexico safe? That question was posed to me and my partner dozens of times while on a recent cruise to Europe. Most of the folks we encountered were bewildered why anyone would volunteer to live in Mexico, based mostly on Mexico's abysmal reputation abroad. Here's an article I recently published in Mexico News Daily addressing head-on the hard facts about how, when, and where Americans die of non-natural causes in foreign countries.

How many non-natural U.S. citizen deaths happen in Mexico? Greg Custer looks at the data on accidents, suicides and homicides.

Who says deserts are desolate? Here's a fascinating example of good resource and land stewardship bringing new life and sustainable employment to largely abandoned ranchos in Baja Sur. Mexico has a saturation on imagination (and resource) draining all-inclusive mega resorts. Can this model be embraced in other parts of Mexico?

Can tourism regenerate a distressed slice of Mexico? Christy Walton (yes, one of those Waltons) bets it can.

It's been said that my new home is the "most cosmopolitan village in the world". Maybe, but where is the proof? I may have stumbled on an informal but confirming piece of evidence. Yesterday I was getting an eye exam at Eye Center Chapala. In their lobby, a map with stickpins shows where customers come from. I count over 40 countries pinned. Who would have an eye exam in a place they are not living or spending a significant amount of time? I suspect very few. So, here's some evidence supporting our international pedigree.

It's a matter of perspective and "framing" how we choose to see other places and cultures. Mexico stands out globally for so many things, far beyond what so many choose to accept as the truth.
