The original name of Cabo San Lucas in the Edúe or Pericúe language was Yenekamú which means place between two waters. There were several names that preceded the one known today, Nueva Albion, Puerto Seguro, Punta Ballenas, Cabo del Engaño, Kingdom of New Andalusia and Villa of San Felipe.

And is named by Francisco Bolaños as Cabo San Lucas on October 18, 1541, by the Catholic Santoral. Another version that records history is that when anchored in the bay they were surprised by a large fence, the crew pleaded for the help of a statue of St. Lucas that was stored in the captain's cabin, at that time a wind dragged the boat to beach getting em in safe. In appreciation the crew named the site after their patron.
