We all love to see whales in their habitat and displaying their incredible strength and agility, however our whales are exposed to many human-related dangers.
Now days entanglements are a major source of anthropogenic mortality or injuries among large whales worldwide. Entanglements can range from minor to severe and might directly impair locomotion inhibiting the ability to surface and obstruct foraging ability, leading to starvation, and can also cause debilitating tissue injury through physical trauma, constriction, or immobilization.
A couple of days ago i found this humpback whale that had a fishing line stuck in its pectoral fins and mouth, this line was already incarnated in one of the pectoral fins, this is a very severe case that unfortunately could not be released.
if you see an entangled whale please do not make any cuts to the fishing line, this could make things worse and prevent rescue teams from freeing the whale, take as much evidence (photos and videos) and report it.
In Mexico you can report it to the RABEN Team at whatsapp number +52 322 150 08 50.

A double breach to never forget! 🩵
The baby humpbacks are getting bigger and stronger, as they gain more than 60 pounds a day while breastfeeding! And we are seeing them growing and learning how to perform skilfull breaches! 🩵🐳 The mothers will teach their calves all the knowledge and practice they need to stay prepared for the long journey ahead of them.

Mobula munkiana, aka Munk’s devil rays, are famous for their acrobatic behaviour, including leaping out of the water.
Why They Jump????
The exact reasons for their jumping are not fully understood, but theories talk about communication through sounds. Jumping to get rid of parasites with the splash they create. And possible mating displays. - Just like our beloved Humpbacks do with their breaching

Have You Seen This Dolphin? 👀
Look at this unique dorsal fin! 🐬 This is a male Eastern Spinner Dolphin, easily recognized by its forward leaning fin, opposite of what we typically see in dolphins!

Eastern Spinner dolphins (𝘚𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘢 𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘪𝘳𝘰𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘴 𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘴) are famous for their incredible spinning jumps, making them one of the most acrobatic dolphins in the ocean. They feed on small fish, shrimp, and squid and are found in tropical and subtropical waters all around the world.

Today about a hundred long beaked common dolphins welcomed us to the sea! This specie can form superpods of more than 10.000 individuals and can reach almost 25 miles/hour when porpoising. There were adults, juveniles and babies, all together! Meeting these dolphins is not uncommon but always fill us with joy and a sensation of good luck! 🍀🐬🐬

30/01/2025

By the time grey whales were given official protection under international agreements in 1937, they were already extinct in the North Atlantic Ocean and dangerously close to extinction in the North Pacific due to commercial whaling.
Since then, they have made an amazing recovery. In the North Pacific, we can divide the Grey whales into 2 different populations: Eastern North Pacific (ENP) and Western North Pacific WNP.
These past couple of weeks the shores of Cabo San Lucas have hosted an abnormally high number of ENP Grey whales.
In this image, you can appreciate the rostrum (face) of a Grey whale spyhopping (raising their heads vertically out of the water to look around) near the beach.
