The week end of 6th & 7th April was a busy weekend for No Limits Baja Adventures team competing in 4 races.
The day started off with Barbara racing team -Barbarita running her 250cc custom Alvarez/ Rubio built buggy in Junior 3 participating against some tough competition. Barbie was running strong in third position in a race where all the kids were absolutely rocking it, keeping an impressive pace and consistency that is teaching them early on to become champions! However, unfortunately, in the back corner, whilst attacking the corner on two wheels, a tie-road broke and caused our little star to roll over! No damage to Barbarita or her buggy and both will be ready to tackle the competition at the next race.
Andrea Tomba had a busy day with his faithful co-driver Felipe Neri Alvarez Peña racing in three different classes back in Southern baja Championship after some time away racing mainly SCORE International events.
First race was Class 8, where he shares the Championship with Tony Wille who is away getting ready for a land speed trial in Utah, and there was a lot of HP in those engines! Congratulations to Team Zavala for a great and clean race and specially to Layo Power for a scaringly great engine for the win! Andrea had an interesting duel with La Troca Perrona from Sinaloa for the first 4 laps and after getting past him it was an impossible task to catch up to Zavala. Great to see the Iguana back out in the dirt, and after an almost 6 years sabbatical, she is still surprising with her amazing suspension and performance. We look forward to seeing more of her this year.
Then later in the afternoon, Andrea and Pio strapped back into the Iguana for Trophy Truck, where he is sharing the season with #74 James Sejd and after loosing the hole shot to Layo himself racing in the Frijoleros impressive Trophy truck, however Andrea was able to squeeze by Layo in the first lap, almost loosing the lead to Layo again a few corners after however Andrea and Pio managed to maintain the lead from there on until an almost photo finish ending with old friend and rival Daniel Perez as Andrea had a front flat tire however they decided not to give up the time to change it and gambled on running the last laps with the flat to clench the finish!
Special shout out to Isaac Mercado of Team Frijoleros!!! What better reason not to be able to race his own truck than being busy being by his wife's side as she delivers them twins!!! Congratulations to Isaac and his growing Family!
As Trophy Truck finished, Andrea and Pio ran across the track to get into the team's Playtech Class 1, which was racing for the first time, sharing the #100 with Sandy Hall and Abel Sandoval, as Sandy is still recovering from a hand injury. For all those in the cars racing Class 1 almost as the sun is setting, after the track has been watered down to leave huge pools of mud in all the corners, it becomes very much a race of who can see best and get a clean start more than anything else. With mud covered shields and cake filled eyes, racing against a setting sun takes a lot of fun out of the race itself, and our admiration and respect goes out to the winning teams whom overcame the conditions to provide a great race and spectacle, whilst Andrea and Pio finished 6th.
But what a day at the races!!! Listening to Luis Medina Arcadia shouting out commentary for almost 12 hours straight and surviving almost getting run over by La Troca Perrona is very impressive as is his working together with Tito Frias to keep the scene in order.
Special thanks to Ana and Tamara for their support and belief in their husbands and drivers and co-drivers and all their attention and patience, not only during the race but all the time leading up to them!
Thanks to everyone from team No Limits Baja Adventures for all the work, sacrifices and passion in getting amazing race cars ready for battle!
Thank you to all the amazing photographers and videographers, some of whoms photos we are sharing here. The quality provided by them and the results they are getting from standing out there in the heat and dust all day, with the occasional car or truck coming at you... your results are spectacular!
Thanks to all the thousands of fans who always show us their support and love for the sport. It is amazing to hear the shouts as we drive by, and the hundreds of fist bumps as we drive back to our tent after the race! Thank you!!
And as always, thank you for the continued support of our sponsors who make this possible for us: Quaker State, in particular to our dear long time friend Daniel Ruiz Isais, to Raceline Wheels, to Vision X, to K&N Filters, to Redhorse Performance, to I love Canadian Oil and Gas, OPTIMA Batteries. We couldn't do this without you!
See you back in the dust soon for the Dos DOS MARES 500!
