One of the first people we met when we bought our condo in Cabo San Lucas was Hector. He sells water sports on Medano Beach near Tabasco’s. Eventually, Hector shared his story with us.

At 12 years old he knew he wanted a better life and he decided to find it on his own. He left El Salvador and walked for 3 months through Mexico. He settled in Cabo San Lucas. Today he has a beautiful family. Whenever you see Hector he has a big smile and warm greeting. He works hard to provide “rice and beans for my familia.”

So the next time you are annoyed with someone asking you to buy a T-shirt, jewelry, wooden bowls or a host of other Mexican handiwork, please be kind and remember they each have a story. Admire their willingness to get up each day to “provide rice and beans” for their families.

I meant to post this earlier today but I got distracted by the emergency services (fire trucks, national guard, ambulances, etc) parade in downtown Cabo. Anyone else see it around 830am today?

Our favorite Cabo breakfast spot is Mama’s Royale Cafe. It is the BEST! You have to try the Coconut Orange drink. It’s made with freshly squeezed orange juice and shredded coconut. The flour tortillas are paper thin and served hot. Smother on Mama’s fresh mango jam and you will thank me!

Great meal at Maria Jimenez restaurant. Tortilla soup, chicken enchiladas verde, breaded chicken, shrimp fajitas, with a couple rounds of house margaritas. Bring cash, they don’t accept credit cards.

Todos Santos is about an hour away from Cabo. It’s a quaint town with a small town vibe and worth the drive for a fun day trip. Don’t miss Santos Tiki Bar. It has delicious margaritas and the fresh tortilla chips are the best around! Be sure to bring cash. They also use PayPal but not credit cards.
