DUNAS DE LA SOLEDAD

Sandy paradise Guerrero Negro, a place founded thanks to salt deposits.

10 km from Guerrero Negro is Dunas de la Soledad, a sandy paradise that never remains the same, because the shape of its hills is constant changes depending on the direction of the wind. This place has incredible scenery that will be remembered for a lifetime!

Best time for visiting the dunes when the sun is in the South Lower California is very high or very low. We plan to get there by sunset, when possible most vividly admire this place.

Although ordinary tourist there are no attractions here, just contemplation of the landscape is already real pleasure that can be used to take beautiful photos. Being sand storage, dunes are also the most important protective beach formation from the influx of the sea.

LAGOON OJO DE LIBRE

Translated as "Eye of the Hare", and is part of Biosphere Reserve El Vizcaino, listed in World Heritage List. This is a reservoir 48 km long, 9 km wide and 5 to 12 m, but near the mouth it has channels more than 20 m deep.

No rivers flow into the lagoon, so it is saltier than sea, and surrounded by coastal salt dunes, having a height of 12 to 15 m tall. This is one of important breeding and hibernation sites for the gray whale, as well as habitat for seals, dolphins, sea lions, elephant seals and blue whales. In addition, to the lagoon for breeding come four different species of marine turtles, and in winter it is a refuge for large number of waterfowl.

In fact, this is the place considered the most attractive place for whale watching in Mexico as it has two main points: the mouth of the lagoon and another in the interior lagoons. On the shore there is a rectangular pond -
evaporator for collecting salt and industrial salt factory.

DAY 4 - February 17
Early morning we go towards the San Ignacio Lagoon.
By 11 am we reach the lagoon and undergo instructions. We are given life jackets and we are distributed among the boats. The boats usually have 6-7 people, plus the person driving the boat.

We swim further from the shore, and now fountains of water and large fins appear on the horizon. We don’t even need to swim close to the whales, they themselves swim up to the boat and are happy to make contact! This is truly an amazing experience! You can take photos and videos, and of course touch the whales, except in certain areas☝🏻

We will be in the ocean for about 2 hours. It will be cold, be sure to wear warm clothes!

At around 1 pm we return to the shore.
On the shore we have lunch in the camping canteen. And we return back to the ranch. Along the way, taking photos of atmospheric landscapes: abandoned
ships, bays, coastal camps,
and pink salt lakes...

In the evening we go to the center of the town for a Mexican dinner and exchange impressions.

SAN IGNACIO

Town of 670 inhabitants (2010) In the past, this place was inhabited by the indigenous Cochimi people, who rightly called it Kadakaaman (reed stream). This place was founded in 1728 by the Mexican Jesuit Juan Bautista Luyando.

San Ignacio, located 142 kilometers from Guerrero Negro (another lagoon where whales live), is a real paradise in the middle of the desert. A fishing town where an underground river flowing from the ground creates a serene lagoon bordered by reed beds. The small main square, lined with Indian leaf trees, houses an impressive ancient mission (church) from the 18th century.

80 km from San Ignacio is the Sierra de San Francisco, a place where examples of some of the most ancient rock paintings have been preserved. We will definitely visit them on our way to Guerrero Negro!
