Some interesting history…The First Airport in Cancun was a runway in the Jungle.

In 1942, businessman Francisco Polo Montes created the first air terminal in Cancún, a modest runway in the middle of the jungle designed to receive airplanes from the Bank of Mexico.

1970: The Mexican government developed a master plan for the Cancun project.
1972: A temporary airport opened one mile from the city with a single runway and a wooden control tower.
1975: The first commercial flight took off from the new airport at its current location.
