The largest salt mine in the world is in Guerrero Negro, located in the municipality of Mulegé, Baja California Sur. The salt mine is around the Ojo de Liebre lagoon and has 33,000 hectares. For the most part, it is a parastatal company, since 1975 when the Mexican Government acquired 51% of the shares; however, there is also an open area, where tourists can visit the area and take beautiful postcards. They may also go to the factory, under prior permission. According to the visitors who have had the opportunity to see the extensive salt field in the state, its name does not reflect the salt industry that gives it life, sustenance and worldwide recognition, nor the natural scenery it offers to tourism; It is a hospitable town, where hundreds of gray whales arrive every year to mate and give birth to their young, which is why it is part of the El Vizcaíno protected area, in Baja California Sur. The beautiful setting could be mistaken for snow, but it is salt. Its landscape of whites and pinks is moving, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, which merge with the desert relief of the region.

El Faro is a construction that is located in the oldest part of Guerrero Negro, ruins that seem more like the setting for a mystery movie. It is located next to the remains of a salt warehouse and the houses of those in charge of the site. The lighthouse is located on the shore of the Guerrero Negro lagoon, and served for many years to illuminate the barges in charge of transporting the salt from the first salt mine established in this town. A few years ago it served as a set for the recording of the film Bajo la Sal, which is about a serial killer who hid his victims... Under piles of salt
