As I suspected the Gray Whales are heading north earlier than normal to start feeding. We noticed them leaving a couple weeks ago and each day there are fewer and fewer with mostly mothers and calves left to watch. Census takers in California have reported twice as many whales passing northbound than usual as well.

The whale season is winding down as many of the whales who we played with all season have headed north to feed. We still have a couple hundred in the lagoon and many of those are the Mothers and babies who are becoming more friendly and visiting our pangas. Here is one little guy who enjoyed playing with us. He is probably about 3 months old now and nearly ready for his first migration north. Hope he makes it!
We will be doing tours until the end of March.

March 8th...a very challenging day on Laguna Ojo de Liebre with wind and strong current making it touch for whales to play with us. So the whales showed off their talent for spy hopping all around us and many mothers and calves swam around us but didnt dare put their babies at risk....so we had fun and saw lots of whales doing their whale thing!
