Located on the Yucatan peninsula, these ruins were one of the main Mayan cities during the Late Classic period and the Early Postclassic period, approximately between the 7th and 13th centuries.

# # # Main Features:

1. **The Castle (Pyramid of Kukulkán)**: It is the most emblematic structure of Chichén Itzá. This four-sided pyramid has an impressive architectural precision, aligned with astronomical events, such as the equinoxes, when a snake-shaped shadow seems to descend down its staircase.

2. **The Temple of the Warriors**: An impressive complex with a large pyramid surrounded by sculpted columns representing warriors. This temple also contains the famous Chac Mool, a reclining figure that is believed to have been used for offerings.

3. **The Great Ball Game**: The largest playing field in Mesoamerica, where a ritual was practiced that had both sporting and religious significance.

4. **The Sacred Cenote**: A natural well used for sacrifices and offerings to the gods. Numerous artifacts and human remains have been found in its background.

5. **The Observatory (El Caracol)**: A circular structure that is believed to be used for astronomical observation. The orientation of its windows and doors indicates that it was used to follow the movements of Venus and other celestial bodies.

# # # Cultural and Archaeological Importance:

Chichén Itzá demonstrates the high level of knowledge in mathematics, astronomy and architecture of the Maya. The city is a testimony to its complex social organization, its religion and its ability to build monuments that have endured over the centuries. In addition, its network of roads (sacbés) and its interaction with other Mayan cities reflect its importance as a cultural and commercial center.

# # # World Recognition:

In 1988, Chichén Itzá was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. In 2007, the Pyramid of Kukulkán was recognized as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, highlighting its global relevance and its tourist attraction.

Chichén Itzá continues to be a place of great interest for both archaeologists and visitors, offering a fascinating window into the rich history and culture of the ancient Maya.
