It's with sadness we leave to go back to the States today. Spending this past week at the house was very special. We got to see many of our Isla friends and enjoyed our Isla family. We decorated our tree and enjoyed evening soaks in the heated pool listening to the waves.

December is a great time to visit the island. The weather is really nice- breezy, but nice to open the sliders and not have to run the AC units. If you haven't considered a December visit to Isla, you should give it a try for 2025.

Tonight the "Casa Brisa Tranquila" family had our annual Christmas dinner together (minus Gelmy this year because she was not feeling well). If you have ever met these wonderful people, you would know how special they are to us and to our guests. The positive experiences and quality rental home that we offer are all due to Diego, Gelmy, Miriam, and Osvaldo. Miriam's mom, Paulina, often pitches in to make sure our quick turnarounds are done right. We love them all and their family as if they were our own. God blessed us and we are forever grateful.

Giving THANKS is a daily exercise that we do for many reasons. In the season of celebrating togetherness and blessings, we wish you all the same. Blessings, togetherness, thanks, and family. Whether you eat turkey or tacos- gathering around a table is one way to enjoy the season.

Sometimes you just need the kind of vacation to reconnect with loved ones and rejuvenate a weary soul. These wonderful guests came to us just for those reasons! After months of chemo treatments, our heated pool soothed aching bones and Isla's warmth of people and places gave this family a chance to spend quality time together. Needless to say, her message of thanks overtook me with emotion. THIS is why we love to share our little piece of paradise with you all!

Here is her email to me in its entirety:
"I don't really have the words to describe how wonderful this vacation has been. None of us want to leave and we are already discussing when we will be returning! Since my diagnosis on April 2nd, the last seven months we have been to hell and back and my children could only sit by and watch me deteriorate through the chemo and radiation. All of our summer plans, even simple day trips to Hershey or hiking were cancelled. I was only able to get them to the pool one day the entire summer. Adrian picked up every bit of my slack-working full time (he is a Veteran Service Officer for the State of Maryland) and then coming home to care for me, the kids, our 3 dogs, the house, the laundry...everything. I think every one of us has been through every emotion possible, worst of all the fear my kids had, as my mother died in August of 2022 from the exact type of cancer. So when I told them, the first question my youngest asked me (11 year old) was if I was going to die.
The views, Gelmy, and every last detail from the snacks when we arrived down to every little detail in every room and cabinet made us feel at home. Coffee on the balcony, feeling the morning sun on my face and listening to the ocean renewed my soul. And the temperature of the pool felt so good on my aching bones. Your recommendations were spot on with things to do as a family. It has been a long time since I have heard so much laughing from the boys and I haven't seen Adrian smile much at all until we arrived. I'm sure being on an island in Mexico is part of it, but I know a large part of it is that we felt very safe, comfortable and mostly we all felt stress free, pampered and taken care of since we have been here...something we all needed more than we knew.
It truly is paradise here, thank you for bringing my family the healing it so desperately needed." - Maryland Guest and Friend

We LOVE it when our friends from MARYLAND come for a visit!!

Their first time on Isla, and certainly not their last. Entre Sabores provided an in-home private chef experience and JAX was a highlight for watching the Ravens vs Commanders game.

Welcome To Our Island Home

In 2005, Leo and I bought a small lot facing the Caribbean Sea on the island of Isla Mujeres, Mexico. Our story began when we had honeymooned on the Riviera Maya in 2000 and took a day trip via catamaran from Cancun over to Isla Mujeres. We immediately fell in love with the island- it felt like a great place to escape the rat race of our world in the Baltimore/Washington area. So from then on, we vacationed on the island. Bought the lot. Spent years finding ways to make this financially work for us- me a Spanish teacher on a meager salary, and Leo a sole practitioner lawyer, and parents of 3 boys. Finally, now in 2019, we are ready to build our island dream house! Ground breaking begins April 2019 and completion date is tentatively set for January 2020. We welcome you with us on this journey and hope you will come stay with us at Casa Brisa Tranquila of Isla Mujeres. We hope to make our home a comfortable place for you to just escape from whatever stresses you have, and relax knowing that you are among friends. Contact me with any questions you have! - Patricia Keenan (aka “La Maestra”)
