Los delfines llaman la atención por su belleza e inteligencia, por esto nadar con delfines es tan popular. ¿Conocías estos 14 datos curiosos sobre ellos?

COMUNICACIÓN DE LOS DELFINES
Son capaces de comunicarse entre sí, utilizando sonidos de diferentes características. Tienen una audición altamente desarrollada, de tal manera que el sonido que nosotros escuchamos, en realidad se compone de unos 700 sonidos diferentes, lo que quiere decir que estaría transmitiendo cientos de mensajes.

TIENEN UN NOMBRE ÚNICO
Cada delfín tiene un nombre único que lo diferencia de los otros. Esto se cree ya que se ha visto que, cuando un nuevo delfín nace, la madre vocaliza el mismo sonido varias veces, lo que ha llevado a pensar que le está diciendo cuál es su nombre.

LA RESPIRACIÓN
Estos mamíferos marinos necesitan salir a la superficie cada determinado tiempo (de 5 a 8 minutos) para poder respirar, cosa que hacen con el espiráculo, ese pequeño agujero que todos los delfines tienen.

RESPIRAN A VOLUNTAD
Otro dato más sobre su respiración es que su respiración no es un reflejo, como en los seres humanos, sino que necesitan respirar a voluntad.

DUERMEN CON LA MITAD DE SU CEREBRO
Su cerebro está preparado para esto, ya que los hemisferios son independientes, pudiéndose desconectar uno del otro mientras duermen. Esto les permite dormir y continuar respirando.

DUERMEN CON UN OJO ABIERTO
Debido a que uno de sus hemisferios continúa funcionando mientras duermen, uno de sus ojos permanecerá abierto, dicho ojo será el que se encuentra del lado del cerebro que está durmiendo.

COMPORTAMIENTO EN GRUPO
Se ha visto que, cuando uno delfín de un grupo está lastimado, los demás acudirán inmediatamente a ayudarle. Todos ellos lo levantarán hasta la superficie para que pueda respirar.

SU PIEL
Con el objetivo de moverse en el agua rápidamente, la piel de los delfines se renueva, aproximadamente, cada dos horas.

EXCELENTE OÍDO
De hecho pueden saber cuándo un objeto ha caído dentro del agua. Pero eso no es todo, son capaces de diferenciar el sonido que hacen según su material de fabricación: goma, plástico, cera o metal.

AYUDAN A LOS PESCADORES
Se ha visto que son capaces de cooperar con los humanos. En algunos lugares, ayudan a los pescadores, empujando a los peces hacia sus redes, a cambio de quedarse con algunos de ellos para su alimentación. Hasta se ha visto que avisen a los pescadores, golpeando levemente el barco, cuando se acercan los peces.

EL NADO DE LOS DELFINES
Se caracterizan por nadar “cabalgando” las olas, en decir, entrando y saliendo del mar, esto por su necesidad de salir del agua para respirar.

SU ALIMENTACIÓN
Durante el invierno suelen comer más cantidades que en verano, esto se debe a la necesidad de grasa para mantenerse calientes cuando las temperaturas del agua son muy bajas.

DELFINOTERAPIA
Los delfines ayudan a personas con necesidades especiales por medio de la Delfinoterapia. El sonar de los delfines transmite ondas ultrasónicas de alta frecuencia, favoreciendo la activación de las neuronas dormidas y facilitando la estimulación de ambos hemisferios cerebrales.

CARECEN DEL SENTIDO DEL OLFATO
Aunque cuentan con un gran oído y una buena capacidad de visión, los delfines carecen totalmente del sentido del olfato. Para encontrar a sus presas, emiten sonidos en el agua que les permiten localizarlas como si se tratara de un sonar.
