Today is the day we honor the Holy Cross....and in most of Latin America, as a legacy from the arrival of the church in XVI Century, this is a day of celebration. In Oaxaca as in most of Mexico this is celebrated even in the Native Villages as this Zapotec community

There is a village named Motul in Yucatan which honors this dish known in all of Mexico called "Huevos Motuleños".....but Yucatan has the best! over a soft tortilla base with seasoned beans two eggs with a delicious salsa, peas, onions, sparkling pig ham and fried plantains!

Ulmecatl -Olmecatl-The people from the rubber world were one of the gran ancient civilizations of Mesoamerica.... mainly in the gulf of Mexico in the states of Veracruz & Tabasco.....this is a 20 Ton colossal head found in La Venta; one of their ancient cities they built and lived in from aprox 1,200- 600 BCE

Today 10/8, 2022 is the anniversary of our grand Tule tree....the thickest tree on earth, measuring 58 meters in perimeter, 42 meters in height and over 2,000 years of age; which is why the town of Santa Maria celebrates every second monday of October another year of life!

Santa Prisca of one of Mexico's colonial jewels, nestled in the mountain city of Taxco, Guerrero; once a wealthy silver city. Don Jose de la Borda, the toens most successful silver miner built it with his own money in the 1750's hirering the best qualified teams in the New Spain...today this is one of the city's main highlights!

Once barroque style arrived and began in the New Spain, it was broadened and/or Mexicanized....one of these new fashions of Mexican Barroque is known as Talavera Barroque...and an excellent example is the church of San Francisco Acatepec outside the colonial city of Puebla.

In Mexico, one of our emblematic dishes of September are "Chiles en Nogada", which is a dish that falls into our Independance month - Mes Patrio as it presents a stuffed poblano pepper with a rich pecan sauce, palme granite & parcely that make the colors of our Mexican Flag.....created post the Revolution of Independance of 1810....as a new Republic

The first Wednesday of every July, Zapotecs of Teotitlan del Valle, Oaxaca celebrate their grand fiesta in honor of the Precious Blood of the Lord....special food is prepared as these "Xsnixins Xin" which is a special Mole cooked within Totomoxtle leaves....a special Zapotec treat once a year!

Breakfast of Champions! In Mexico we normally eat a full breakfast and then "comida-supper".....and skip eating at night. And every once in a while, we have "Almuerzo", like brunch style meal like this morning in Oaxaca.....Moronga, pork ribb in black chile salsa & entomatada(corn tortilla stuffed with chicken and covered in a red kidney tomato salsa with parsley, cheese & cream on top!

Cuetzalan, Puebla, Mexico is a Nahuatl community nestled in the Sierra Madre Oriental....every sunday, there is a Tianguis(market day), where locals from all the foothills bring their fruits, vegetables, textiles and more....special Tlayoyos are made as snacks....Tlayoyos are corn based tarts stuffed with ground dried peas & avocado leaves....to dye for!

Xanath in Totonac language is what the world knows as Vanilla....this is a creeper orchid that was first cultivated in the northern gulf of Mexico in the region of Papantla, Veracruz. Totonacs at El Tajin traded with other Mesoamerican nations that used it to mix with Cacao for their chocolate drink that was a royal beverage.....locals in Papantla still call it by its original name Xanath....

This is Mexico's grandest Ethnic celebrations, bringing together most of Oaxaca's 14 Ancestral Pueblans(Indian Nations), with unique dance performances, Special Food Festival, Tlayuda Festival, Mezcal Festival....and many more activities in a two week Fiesta!
