Estos mamíferos gigantes pueden alcanzar hasta 30 metros de largo y pesar casi 150 toneladas, y nosotros seguido podemos verlas a una distancia casi al alcance de nuestra mano. Debido al hecho de que la ballena azul y la de aleta salen a la superficie del mar unos 2 a 6 minutos después de su largo buceo, y viajan a una velocidad de 15 kilómetros por hora, es importante entender muchas variables, las cuales determinaran el tiempo del buceo el cual puede llegar a ser de 25 minutos, y el lugar donde la ballena saldrá a la superficie.
