If you enjoy exploring ruins, then you'll want to come with us as we visit two famous sites. Kohunlich is the home of the Sun God, and the largest ruin site in Quintana Roo and Dzibanche is where the royals once lived during this ancient, but highly advanced culture. Be sure to bring your camera, you'll want to capture these exciting structures to show your friends and family back home. You might also want to wear comfortable shoes since you'll have the unique opportunity to climb the temple steps for an amazing view. You'll start this adventure by meeting with your English speaking guide close to the cruise ship terminal. Then it will be time to climb aboard comfortable, and air conditioned, transportation for a scenic ride to the first site. Along the way you will be given further information about the Maya as well as what to expect once you arrive. At Dzibanche you will soon discover courtyards that are surrounded by large pyramids that were used as temples. Almost hidden by lush vegetation, you'll be surprised once the path opens up to the impressive view. It's interesting to note that this is also one of the very few sites that still allows people to climb the stairs. If you decide to do that, be prepared for an amazing view. Next you'll head off to Kohunlich, home of the Sun God. This site is quite large and has both residential complexes as well as palaces. The impressive architecture is what indicates that this was quite probably the home of royal families during the height of the Mayan Civilization. Your guide will be sure to give you some insight and will be happy to answer general questions. Don't forget to visit the Temple of the Masks at Kohunlich. Once holding 8 enormous stucco masks, there are still 5 of the original masks left for viewing. You can see them quite well if you decide to climb the staircase that goes up the middle of this temple. Once your sightseeing is finished, you will return to the air conditioned comfort of your transportation and be returned to the cruise ship pier.
