Seeing death through Mexican eyes 💀🪬🇲🇽
Seems to be less painful, when a loved one dies 🕊️

To be with them once more,
by means of song and dance 🎶💃

To sit with them, talk with them,
have another chance 🕯️❤️

Preparing and sharing
their favorite drinks and food 🍲🥃

Remembering them, these amazing moments,
when all in life was good 🌅

This is not a moment to be sad...
This is Día de Mu***os / Day of the Dead !!! 🎉🌸💀

✨🌼 The people of the prehispanic cultures did NOT paint their faces as skulls nor dress up as Catrinas 💀

"La Catrina" was a satire created by cartoonist José Guadalupe Posada. Who, during the times of presidents Benito Juárez and Porfirio Díaz, mocked mestizos and indigenous people, who were pretending to be European while rejecting their own race, heritage, and culture. They were called "garbanceros" precisely because they dedicated themselves to growing and selling chickpeas. So José Guadalupe Posada created "La Calavera Garbancera" to express that the garbanceros were "...skin and bones, but wearing French hats with ostrich feathers."

Diego Rivera named her "La Catrina," from the word "catrín," which defined (sometimes derogatorily) the upper social class, and immortalized her in his mural "Dream of a Sunday Afternoon in Alameda Central Park", alongside José Guadalupe Posada (anoyed man on the right side), Diego Rivera as a child and Frida Kahlo; both on the left side. 💓🇲🇽

Join our 4 amazing experiences THIS week, related to Día de Mu***os / Day of the Dead. The main dates for Día de Mu***os are November 1 and 2, but with these 4 trips we can get already in the mood for the most beautiful of all Mexican traditions 💓🇲🇽💀🌼.

🌼 Sunday 20th of October; the Cempasuchil / Marigold experience in the outskirts of Xochimilco, where me make a beautiful guided walk through off the beaten track fields, channels and bridges of Xochimilco. The price is 650 pesos and includes round transport for our small group and a guided walk by a certified bilingual guide. From 8.00 to 15.00 hrs. On Friday 25th of October, we combine this experience with a boat ride in a traditional trajinera for 750 pesos.

🏵️ Sunday 20th of October + Tuesday 22nd of October; the Mercado de Jamaica experience, where we will make a guided walk through the epic market, with many Day of the Dead decorations. The price is 250 pesos and included a guided walk by certified bilingual guide. From 10.00 to 13.00.

🛶 On Wednesday 30th of October we organize the Dead of the Dead experience in Tlahuac. This trip is far away from the crowds and in nature. We will explore the Southern part of Mexico City; at the amazing Lago de los Reyes Aztecas in Tlahuac. Where we take a boat trip on a traditional Trajinera, visiting a beautiful Chinampa, an artificial island created in prehispanic times. During the boat trip our certified bilingual Mexican guide will explain about the origin and meaning of Día de Mu***os, the most beautiful of all Mexican traditions. Plus we can enjoy the traditional Pan de Mu***os and a traditional chocolate aboard. On arriving at the Chinampa (island made in prehispanic times), we will visit a beautiful field of Cempasúchil / Marigold flowers and learn why this flower is so important for Day of the Dead. Afterwards, we will make a beautiful traditional altar / offering together and explain the significance of the different parts of the altar. The price is 1350 pesos and includes transport, trajinera boat ride, hot chocolate, pan de mu**to (bread of the dead), certified guide and the day of the dead experiences mentioned above. From 10.00 to 16.00.

💀 On October 26 and 28, plus November 1 we have will explore the towns of Tlahuac and Mixquic, both famous for their Day of the Dead celebrations. By going early (not on the main dates), we can escape the crowds and we can learn all about the most beautiful of all Mexican traditions. Mixquic has a beautiful monastery, with its amazing rose garden and archeological pieces, surrounded by its large cemetery, already decorated with the first flowers. Plus in the town itself we can stroll through its narrow streets, while we can enjoy beautiful murals, most of them related to Día de Mu***os. The nearby town of Tlahuac is also a great place, with another amazing Monastery, a colorful market, more channels and chinampas and a very interesting local regional museum with amongst others 3 beautiful prehispanic ovens in the form of masks (visit depends if open or not, irregular opening times). The price is 950 pesos, from 8.30 to 18.00, and includes private transport for our dmall group and certified bilingual guide.

More amazing experiences for Día de Mu***os can be found in our blog below and as events on our page. Such as a day trip to Patzcuaro, Isla Janitzio and Tzintzuntzan on November 1st and the famous 'alumbrada' in Mixquic on November 2nd.
