Did you know about Chacahua?

The Lagunas de Chacahua National Park has been created in 1937. Accessible by boat from Puerto Escondio, the magnificent lagoon is a must-seen to every traveler thrilled by wildlife.

246 species of flowers and 189 species of animals have been documented so far in the park. Birds such as storks, herons, wild ducks, blue-winged teals, pelicans, and spoonbills can be found here.

Sitting on a small coastal plain between the Sierra Madre Mountain Range and the Pacific Ocean, Puerto Escondido is the perfect beach hideout everybody dreams of: Sunny and warm year-round, surrounded by pristine beaches.

Its shorebreak is famous worldwide. Waves can get more than 30 ft high over here! But don't worry; there are plenty of spots to swim safely.

For more than 4 years, the Punta Zicatela Camp has been doing a great job to protect the marines turtles of Puerto Escondido.

They have collected and protected more than 80,000 eggs.

62,000 turtles had the chance to see the light of day thanks to their dedication.

Mexico alone harbors 12% of the World’s biodiversity.

The Centro Iguanario of Puerto Escondido was founded 17 years ago.

They have released more than 1256 crocodiles, 5800 iguanas, 550 parrots and 50 boas.

They have also contributed to reproduce 250 animals which are endemic to the region, such as birds, deers and turtles.

In 2007, more than 3 million children from 5 to 17 years old were out of school.

In addition, between 1% and 2% of the Mexican population from 6 to 11 years work in the fields or suffer from a physical disability.

The Sierra Madre Occidental spreads over 932 miles. The mountain range meets the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt right after Santiago River. The Volcanic Belt crosses the country from East to West. The Sierra Madre Occidental is generally considered to be part of the much larger American cordillera, the mountains extending from Alaska down to these across Western North America.

The Sierra Madre Oriental is the second mountain range, located in northeastern Mexico. It spreads over 620 miles.
This long range of tall mountains is noted for its abundant biodiversity and large number of endemic species of plants and wildlife, from the dry north to the wetter south.

In 1882, Venice suffered severe floods by the Piave River, which forced thousands of Venetian citizens to re-establish overseas. 3,000 colons established in Chipilo, next to Puebla City.

Nowadays, the village counts with more than 4000 inhabitants and they still speak the Venetian dialect inherited from Italian immigration.

The “Mole Poblano” is a culinary specialty from Puebla, famous all around Mexico. It’s basically made out of a particular sauce spread over different chicken pieces and rice. This well-known sauce has various ingredients: chili, cacao or chocolate, sesame, peanuts, tomato and crumbled tortillas.

Located in downtown Puebla, this massive cathedral was inaugurated in 1649. Declared “World Heritage Site” by the UNESCO, the cathedral is one of the finest examples of colonial art in Mexico.

The “Chile en Nogada” is a typical and delicious Mexican dish from Puebla. It is made a big chili stuffed with pork chopped meat, nuts sauce and many other local ingredients.

According to legend, sisters from a convent in Puebla city created this dish for the visit of one of the Mexican fathers of Independence, Agustin de Iturbide.

The “Chile en Nogada” has now become a national dish cooked for the Independence celebration on September 16. It has the three Mexican national colors: red, green and white.

Since times immemorial, the Chapulines are eaten in many areas of the Sierra Madre of Mexico (mountain ranges), and especially in Puebla. They have a big nutritional intake in protein –even higher than the beef meat.

Have you heard about the China Poblana (Chinese Poblana) ?

The China Poblana is the name of the traditional dress of Puebla.
It was used by local poblanas on everyday life until the second half of the 19th century.

Its name came from the legendary former slave China Poblana, brought to Mexico from the Philippines by the Spanish on the 17th Century.

Cholula was one of the major cities of pre-Columbian Mesoamerica. The archeological site is located 9 miles from Puebla and is surrounded by the mind-blowing Popocateptl and Iztaccihuatl volcanos.

The Great Pyramid of Cholula, Tlachihualtepetl, is the largest prehispanic structure in the world in terms of volume.
