Happy Oil Expropriation Day!

On this date, March 18, 1938, the Mexican government nationalized the country's oil fields, expropriating all petroleum/oil assets from the international companies had built the infrastructure used for production. On this date in 1938, via a national radio broadcast, then President Cárdenas declared Mexico's oil belonged to the country and the populace of Mexico. At time, the newly formed Mexican oil company, PEMEX, was created as the nation's sole petroleum corporation (and still exists today).

This date is now a national observance and is typically celebrated by the oil and gas industry with events to honor the national ownership and sovereignty of the country's oil reserves.

It's always fun to see the many dance groups perform on the streets during the day along Rafael E. Melgar! We loved all these great pics posted here in front of La Mission! Be prepared if you are in Cozumel these next few days as will hopefully be fortunate to experience this yourselves each day now thru Fat Tuesday! :-)

We had fun meeting and hosting the Carr family from Stoughton, MA yesterday here at PalMar! Enjoy the rest of your vacation and cruising across the Caribbean! :-)

We enjoyed hosting yesterday the Purovesi family from Finland! Their cruise ship ported in Cozumel and they joined us after touring the San Gervasio ruins! Thanks for spending time with us here at PalMar and hope the remainder of your cruise is relaxing and fun! :-)

As many of you know, we take reservations due to our size and to help make PalMar a different experience than your typical Caribbean beach club! We like remaining small, quiet, etc., not a massive tourist trap and reservations are how we manage our attendance!

But, that being said, we do welcome (depending on the bookings for the day), walk-ins! So you can always drop by and if we have availability, you are more than welcome to spend the day with us! This couple we really will miss as they were on the island staying at a friend's villa/condo that was within walking distance, found us and have been back 3-4 times now. But they are heading home so we will wish them a fond farewell and hope they are back visiting again and are more than welcome to spend their days here at PalMar! :-)

❤️❤️❤️ We always are very excited when we learn of new products and technologies that help our environment instead of harming it! This is a great product and we really hope more companies will get behind this innovation that will save tons of marine life and actually provide food for sea turtles and other life! We can make a difference... ❤️❤️❤️

You've likely seen photos of plastic 6-pack rings tangle the wings of sea birds, choke seals, and warp the shells of growing sea turtles. This brewery has a solution...

We enjoyed hosting and serving Laura, Larry, Jill and Sam from Stillman Valley, IL USA today while their cruise ship docked here in Cozumel! They are enjoying one (1) of our favorites, our quesadillas! Bon Appetit!

We also love being eco-friendly! Returnable glass bottles of Coke and those straws are bio-degradable paper! :-)

We always enjoy having guests return to visit us here at PalMar and were thrilled when we heard Richard and Cara were back on the island and wanted to stop by again! They are unthawing from Picton, Ontario, CAN and we actually were able to snap a photo of them which is rare as Richard is the one (1) usually taking both video and photos (he has sent us some incredible footage/pics from prior visits)!

Again, it was so good to see these smiling faces and hopefully they have warmed up enough to brave those cold temps back home! Enjoy the rest of your vacation and give us a shout if you are back in Cozumel! :-)

Being located in a tropical paradise has downsides folks. We have to mow year round! However, we probably should not complain about as we are sure Juan would much rather be mowing grass in 70°F/21°C temperatures than snowblowing snow in subzero temperatures. HA! Thanks Juan for keeping the grounds and grass looking fantastic here at IslaMar!

We thought we would share this with everyone as it was news to us! As many are aware, here in Mexico we use "Limón (Lime)" in almost every aspect of our foods and drinks. Those not from Mexico originally (i.e. Canadians or Americans) grew up with "Lemon" as our main tart fruit. This explains why we often confuse tourists when they ask here in Cozumel for "lemon" for their beverage/water and they are brought "lime" instead (partially a translation issue, but facts are, we just do not readily grow the USA/CAN lemon fruit here in Mexico ~ most grown is predominantly all Lime/Limón)!

We were amazed to learn today neither lemon nor lime are actually naturally occurring fruits but are both in reality "hybrids". All "citrus" fruits originated from the following three (3) fruits ~ citrus medica (citrons), citrus maxima (pomelos) and citrus reticulata (mandarins). So many of your popular fruits, oranges, limes, lemons, etc. are all hybrids.
This article is great in discussing the history and all and we are attaching a photo to show the "evolution" of how we came to create the fruits we now enjoy today!

So, for those of you familiar with the old adage "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade" ~ well since lemons aren't actually naturally occurring and are a hybrid by crossbreeding a bitter orange with a citron, well folks, life never gave us lemons; we invented them all by ourselves! LOL...
Enjoy...

Wonderful review of PalMar Snorkel Beach Club... :-)

Wonderful review of PalMar Snorkel Beach Club... :-)

We have really enjoyed getting to meet Linda & Gary (this was their 2nd visit back to us as they are staying in Playa del Carmen) and appreciated them sharing their knowledge of PalMar with their fellow Canadian friends Mary and Michael and returning yesterday! We also greatly appreciate the very nice review they submitted in TripAdvisor (see below)! :-)

"We are staying in Playa del Carmen for 6 weeks. We really wanted to do some snorkeling and although the options in Playa are numerous, they were not always economical. After doing a lot of research, I found the website, Cozumelinsider.com (a great information source by the way) and found out about PalMar. We were really happy we found it. A smaller beach club, nothing pretentious, but great service, snorkeling and food. A great day. The day we were there, there were a few Mexican families enjoying the spot. It was nice to be among locals and not just tourists. For the price, this really is a special gem. The $14 US per person includes 2 beer/beverage, towels, beach chairs, beach service, swimming pool, showers, lockers and several other things that we didn’t use. The snorkeling was great. It was interesting seeing all of the charter boats bringing people to the exact same spot we were and I am sure they spent more than $14 US to snorkel in the same place as we were. It really is with mixed emotions that I write this review as I don’t want people to find out about it as they limit the daily amount of people that can book here due to space and enjoyment, if it gets too popular, there won’t be space for us next time. We still have 3.5 more weeks in the Mayan area and we will definitely be visiting PalMar again. Thanks for the great day. We will see you soon. Cheers."

It was great seeing Linda and Gary from Kelowna, BC CAN again here at PalMar! They are staying in PDC and were hear a week ago and came back and brought their friends Mary and Michael to check out PalMar and also toured our IslaMar Vacation Villas for 2020 winter getaway!

Thanks again for visiting, enjoy the rest of your Mexican stay and hope we get to see all of you again in a year (or soone)! :-)

We had a nice number of guests here today at PalMar enjoy the stunning views of the Caribbean off our beach area. Many also were snorkeling our Dzul Ha Reef, seeing our large variety of marine life amonst the coral. If you are on the island, give us a shout and/or go to www.cozumelinsider.com/palmarres to reserve your space. :-)
