Pre-Hispanic City of Chichen-Itza
This sacred site was one of the greatest Mayan centres of the Yucatán peninsula. Throughout its nearly 1,000-year history, different peoples have left their mark on the city. The Maya and Toltec vision of the world and the universe is revealed in their stone monuments and artistic works. The fusion of Mayan construction techniques with new elements from central Mexico make Chichen-Itza one of the most important examples of the Mayan-Toltec civilization in Yucatán. Several buildings have survived, such as the Warriors’ Temple, El Castillo and the circular observatory known as El Caracol.

Pueblos Mancomunados - Travesía en la Sierra Norte

The Sierra Norte is a mystical region filled with a deep history of geographically isolated communities who actively resisted Spanish colonial ventures and continue to combat extractivism preserving their unique ecosystems. Reforestation projects in the region are held up as examples worldwide to combat destructive extractivism by transnational corporations in favor of communal control of resources. In the Sierra Norte we will be able to learn about this history of resistance while immersing ourselves in the dense oak and pine clouded forest. This is one of the most biodiverse ecosystems in all of México (making it one of the most biodiverse areas in the world).

The long road winding began in the stars, spilled onto the mountain tops, was carried in the snow to the streams, to the rivers, to the ocean. It covers Canada, Alaska, America, Mexico to Guatemala, and keeps winding around the indigenous.

The Red Road is a circle of people standing hand in hand, people in this world, people between people in the Spirit world, Star people, Animal people, Stone people, River people, Tree people. The Sacred Hoop.

To walk the Red Road is to know you stand on equal ground with all living things. It is to know that because you were born human, It gives superiority over nothing. It is to know that every creation carries a Spirit, and the river knows more than you do, the mountain knows more than you do, the stone people know more than you do, the trees know more than you do, the wind is wiser than you are, and animal people carry wisdom. You can learn from every one of them because they have something you don’t. They are void of evil thoughts. They wish vengeance on no one, they seek.

Ayer concluyó el programa académico de “Medio Ambiente y Sociedad en Oaxaca” en la villa agroecológica de Tierra del Sol. Se abordaron algunos temas sobre cómo los diferentes aspectos del medio ambiente y la cultura de Oaxaca pueden verse influenciados por el cambio climático y la globalización.

Durante los últimos días los estudiantes de
han comenzado aprender sobre comunalidad, ecosistemas nativos y cuidado del medio ambiente en Oaxaca. Visitaron algunos proyectos en la ciudad, y las comunidades de Lachatao y Guelatao en la Sierra Norte.

Parte de el curso “Medio ambiente y Sociedad en Oaxaca” se enfoca en aprender cómo el medio ambiente local (plantas, animales y clima) ha dado forma a las sociedades y culturas de Oaxaca, pero también cómo los humanos han transformado la ecología (plantas y animales) y el paisaje de la región.

Y también como es que el conocimiento ecológico tradicional ha contribuido a la sustentabilidad ambiental e influido en la resistencia y resiliencia ecológicas.
