Potential Tropical Cyclone 19 is expected to become later today. It is currently about 280 miles east of the coast of Honduras with winds of 35 mph. Moving to the west at 16 mph.

*Through early next week, heavy rainfall will cause significant, life-threatening flash flooding and mudslides across portions of Central America, particularly Honduras, Belize, El Salvador, eastern Guatemala, and western Nicaragua.

*The disturbance is forecast to be near hurricane strength when it moves near the eastern coast of Honduras on Friday and Saturday. Hurricane watches and tropical storm warnings are in effect for portions of that area.

*The system is forecast to approach Belize and the Peninsula of Mexico at or near hurricane strength by early next week where there is a risk of dangerous storm surge and damaging winds.

*It is too soon to determine what impacts the system could bring to portions of the eastern Gulf of Mexico, including Florida, the Florida Keys, and Cuba during the middle portion of next week. Sara could dissipate inland over the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico, but it if survives we will need to keep a close eye on it in the southern Gulf.

DO NOT pay the COPS in Mexico

Paying bribes to police officers in Mexico or anywhere else as a matter of fact, is a harmful practice for several reasons. First, it perpetuates corruption within the system, allowing unethical officers to profit and discouraging reform. This weakens public trust in law enforcement, making it harder for honest citizens and officers to function within a transparent and fair legal framework.
Second, by paying bribes, you undermine your own legal rights. Often, tourists may feel pressured into offering money to avoid trouble, but doing so can escalate the situation, putting you at risk of further extortion or even legal consequences if caught. It's important to know your rights and follow legal protocols. Especially in Quintana Roo state there is a law that protects tourists. A cop is REQUIRED BY LAW to give you 2(TWO) warnings, at no cost to the tourist, BEFORE they give you a fine. Tell the cop he needs to give you a "COURTESY TICKET"...or BOLETA DE CORTESIA in Spanish. This is the article in the law of the state: CAPITULO XVII APOYO AL TURISTA Artículo 241
Moreover, supporting bribery contributes to a broader cycle of impunity, where the law is bent for personal gain, fostering an unsafe environment. When bribes are normalized, local communities suffer as public services become unreliable, and crime may go unaddressed because resources are diverted for corrupt purposes.
Lastly, paying bribes can have serious consequences for travelers. In some cases, you could face arrest, deportation, or heavy fines for participating in corrupt practices, as Mexico continues efforts to crack down on bribery.
In conclusion, if you know you have not done anything outright illegal, stand your ground, don't give into threats, know your rights and you should be fine.
