“This was the dive I was least excited for, knowing it was called THE PIT and was over 50m deep didn't help. However I still can't quite find the words to explain what this dive was like. The water is clearer than vodka so it doesn't feel like you're diving. It feels like you're a mix of Peter Pan and James Bond, on acid floating around this dark tube. But the tube is lit up by the most amazing light effects blasting in from the top with a layer of cloudy smoke at the bottom catching the light whilst other versions of dark Peter Pans float around in it. The whole thing was so trippy and when anyone ever asks me what my most amazing experience has been on my wildlife trips this is what comes to mind. Despite it being the most lifeless place I've ever been. I'm usually quite unaffected by experiences, taking things often too much in my stride and not really appreciating it. The Pit was not one of those experiences. I don't often say this... But I loved it! Get @yucatandivetrek to hook you up with a trip. But don't start at the pit, save it till last! XTC Dive Center is at the center of the Great Maya Reef, the second-largest barrier reef in the world. Scuba Diving around here offers incredible diversity. There are deep and shallow walls, unique geographical formations, vast canyons between the spur and groove reef systems, swim-throughs, caverns, and an exotic array of Caribbean marine reef creatures.
