Russ' Annual Boat Float and Splash usually scheduled for the Friday of Circus Mexicus is on! This year, the Float will be renamed the "Russ Black Memorial Splash" and a big part of the proceeds will be donated to his wife, Naomi.
As always, it is "first to sign up gets the tickets" - and limited to about 100 of you!
So, make your reservation soon!

Another heads up. I will be leading a caravan out Monday morning from the Reef RV park, we are 27 rigs in length. We plan on being on the main highway to Sonoyta at 9 am. If you heading up north tomorrow get on the highway before 9 or after 1030 and we wont be in your way.

A quick reminder.....our caravan is departing Peñasco tomorrow morning (Saturday March 12th) and will be on the highway north of the overpass at 8:30 am. We will travel the speed limit of 55 to Sonoyta where we will be escorted to the border by the Sonoyta Police department. If you want to avoid being in our caravan please consider leaving before us (8:00 is fine) or after we are on the road (9:30 is fine) US Border patrol knows we are coming and will assign extra agents at the Lukeville Port of Entry to aid in us getting across as fast as possible. This notice is for your convenience and I hope you understand that! Thanks!

Just a heads up for next Monday February 28th. We will be bringing in a large Caravan of Rvs from Sonoyta to Peñasco. We plan to cross the border heading south at about 9:45 - 10:00 Monday morning. We travel at 55 to 60 Mph and we leave space to pass every 3 rigs. If you are heading to Peñasco that morning please plan to get there before us (9:30 is good) or after us 11:00 am is good. This will alleviate stress for all concerned especially if you are in a hurry.

Tomorrow...yes Sunday March 14th...this group of 22 RVs will be making their way back to the border from Peñasco. Our plan is to start rolling at 8am. We will be on the main highway at 8:20 to 8:30 am. We travel at 60 mph with room between us to pass if you need to. However my suggestion is to leave just before 8 am or wait until 9 am to avoid us. Just another heads up. This is our last caravan until October. Drive safe out there.

A did you know moment.

Puerto Peñasco sits on a body of water many call the Sea of Cortez, did you know it was named in honor of the Spanish conqueror Hernan Cortés in the 16th century? Even though it is pronounced the same as Cortez, Cortés is the correct name. Did you know that before that it was known as the Vermilion Sea? It is also known as Mar Bermejo for it's color. It is also called the Golfo de California, Did you know that the word California comes from an Arabic word Khalifa which means successor? As the story goes the area currently known as the state of California was called that because it was a mythical place of untold wealth and ruled by women, the story is kind of weird so I left it at that. If you want the details look it up. So the Golfo de California was the passage to this great mythical place. So if you live in Puerto Peñasco what do you call it? Sea of Cortés, or Gulf of California? If you opt for the Vermilion sea or Mar Bermejo, most people will not have a clue what you are talking about, but the others are known worldwide. Just a little local trivia today!

This is not a political post I am not political but I am proud to live where I live. The mayor and his wife are setting up a dispensary at the local DIF office that will distribute food to the most vulnerable in our population 900 meals per week so far......here's the cool thing.....The bag consist of 11 items, can of tuna, bag of legumes, 2 lbs of rice, 2 lbs of beans, a quart of oil and a few other things but they are also including 2 rolls of toilet paper.....Is this strong leadership? Help is going to the elderly, help is going to the vendors that walk the beach but can't now because all the beaches are closed, people that are abandoned...and others. The point is they are doing something for their people. AIM and Steps of love is doing the same thing through their contributions from the States and they are cooking food for the same people, Chef Mickey made breakfast for anybody who stopped by the corner of Sinaloa and Freemont. There are so many people stepping up in the face of this crappy time that I am truly impressed! Just thought I would put this out there!
