"My friends, family and I enjoyed a wonder filled day trip with Los Veranos Canopy Tours while traveling in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. A short taxi ride to the marina from our resort (Samba Vallarta) and we met our Captain and First Mate (Manny) for our boat ride across the bay. We passed the amazing tiny islands of Los Arcos de Mismaloya which is a designated Mexican National Park. Arriving in the village of Boca de Tomatlan we boarded their open air coach for a brief ride up the mountain to the Base Camp.
This is a beautiful venue. So much work has been put into turning this into a true oasis in the jungle. The river runs through it. All the staff and crew are friendly and professional. After a comprehensive safety and equipment meeting we began our climb to the first take off point. There are numerous stairs and steps that must be climbed during the tour. That number of stairs lessens as the tour progresses. I believe there were 19 take off’s that day, skimming the tree tops or flying 600 feet above the river gorge, each offering their own amazing views.
Professional photographers followed us the entire way capturing images I never could have done. We purchased every picture they had of our group. The restaurant was open, serving a limited menu and amazing drinks (early January). The animal sanctuary is staffed with knowledgeable handlers that allow you to interact with a Toucan and a couple varieties of monkeys, too.
Those of us of age sat down for a tequila tasting featuring a local distillery, Los Arcos. Our bartender, Bruno, was very well informed and offered a nice presentation. Finally, some of the younger members of our group slid down the rockslide into the clear, cool water below. An idyllic tiny beach.
The ride back seemed to pass too quickly yet safe, happy and maybe a little tired we returned home with memories amongst us to last a lifetime.
