The ancient Mayan game of pelota was played for at least a thousand years before the invasion of the Spanish. And again, last night, at the festival of the día de Los Mu***os in Pomuch.
Being in the stands was part of a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you can only get at Campeche Magico.

Our loved ones are very near now, and we can feel their presence.

Día de los mu***os is a celebration of life and death, but mostly life.
We started off with a visit to the incredible village of Pomuch, where for centuries, the inhabitants have engaged in a unique ritual, the cleaning of the bones.
We finished it off with a terrific parade and dancing in the streets of the historic capital.

There are 4 days left of celebrations as we wait anxiously for the souls of our departed loved ones to arrive.

One of the most magical times of the year has started in Campeche, Hanal Pixan, or Day of the Dead. A time when souls cross back to visit their loved ones, steeped in tradition. Our guests are invited to bring their own photographs and favourite possessions to help guide their loved ones to the right place.

October is a very special time in Campeche, last night was the opening parade of mes de la Campechanidad, a whole month of celebrations. The whole city came out in traditional attire and danced🕺 played music 🎵 and ate and drank. It was fab.

At Campeche Mágico all our rooms are named after animals found in the Calakmul biosphere. Our keychains are carved by a carver from Dzibilnohac out of hardwoods found in the same biosphere.
