This camp was established in the mid XIX century during the whaling times, it was the only location in the Lagoon that rendered the oil from the whales after they killed them. La Freidera means "the fryer". It is not owned by the same family that owned it then and it has been quite sometime since oil was last rendered here. Now you can hunt whales only with your camera on one of our 3 tourist boat

Our Story

This camp was established in the mid XIX century during the whaling times, it was the only location in the Lagoon that rendered the oil from the whales after they were killed. La Freidera means "the fryer".

Now you can hunt whales only with your camera on one of our 3 tourist boats that make 2 daily whale watching tours (weather permitting). Come and enjoy with the whole family with expert staff to make of your experience the absolute best. We have 12 cabins that can accommodate up to 36 guests and a comfortable beach house reserved for groups of 4-6 people. You can also enjoy classic award winning regional food made with fresh fish caught in the waters of Laguna San Ignacio.

If you want to see another historic part of Baja near San Ignacio we can also take you to see the cave paintings of El Raton and l Palmarito in the nearby Sierras of San Francisco and Santa Marta.
