We’ve upgraded the bathroom shower stalls from the hard plastic doors to beautiful sliding glass doors and added seating. (Upstairs studio bathroom not pictured.)

The large galley kitchen has a 10ft Long Island over looking the living and dining areas. It’s stocked with everything you need to cook, bake, grill or fry. There’s a blender, toaster, microwave, spices, oils, cooking spray, etc. The views outside are lovely. We can also hook you up with a private chef if you’d prefer to be pampered. Hit us up!

Besides our rooftop plunge pool, there is a large community pool on the grounds for your use. The right shallow side is wonderful for sunning or for young children. The left side seats are a great place to hang and eat or enjoy drinks.

On site at Cenote Dos Ojos, there are showers, bathrooms, and a great restaurant/bar where you can get a killer lobster and glass of red wine for $30.

When we purchased Casa Sophia, we knew that we wanted to share our house and this gorgeous quaint Mexican town with everyone who wanted to experience the beauty and culture we discovered there so many years ago. For Valentines 2018, I had this incredible “Love” sign made out of Mangrove wood by our favorite Mayan carpenter, Fred. All of the wood items in Casa Sophia Tulum were made by Fred. And the little trinkets you see on the shelf are from past guests. We love you all!

We just came back from a beautiful and relaxing week in Tulum. We got so much done. We tried a ton of new restaurants and beach clubs. We bought new lounge chairs and a new mattress for the roof deck. We slept under the stars a few evenings and woke up to bird chirping under a lovely breeze. It was LOVELY! We bought new king bed sheets, new towels, new toilet roll holders, new trashcans, new dish drying rack and new pots and pans. In the coming weeks, all the bathrooms and the roof deck will be repainted. The pool is getting an upgraded aluminum banister that won't rust. Finally, we got our Casa Sophie Instagram page going. (The salt air really rusts everything pretty quickly so keep that in mind when you see any rust on items. Even tho we don't like plastic, we are slowly figuring out that plastic is the only way to go to avoid rust.)

It took us a few years to try to Mezzanine Hotel, Tulum. They have an interesting selection of Thai cuisine. Do not expect Authentic Mexican cuisine nor a fusion of the two. You really come here for the view and the 2-for-1 Margaritas. There is also access to the Playa Panco beach, which is divine.

Playa Pocna is the beach at is accessible from Mezzanine Hotel, Tulum. Enjoy delicious 2-for-1 Margarita and a Thai meal at Mezzanine before heading down to the beach where there is always an eclectic group of beach goers. All cultures, all ages. And the water is as beautiful as the people.

Palma Central is the local Tulum food truck collective. There is everything you can think of among the 12 trucks on site. Tacos, tostadas, fish sandwiches, sausage, hot dogs, and arepas where you get to pick the dough. A truck just for drinks...and yes, they have Prosecco. 🥘

A few years ago, we were delighted when Sin Etiqueta opened up a few feet from Casa Sophia Tulum. For an excellent cup of coffee, a yummy espresso (you don’t even need milk or sugar, it’s so good), or a lovely, fresh breakfast close to home, this is the first place we recommend.

It is such a charming spot. This is more delicious than any Starbucks and not fast food. If it is busy, expect to wait a Mexican minute for a delicious cup of Joe and your super fresh meal. It's absolutely worth the wait.
We love Sin Etiqueta’s dedication to helping the street dogs. Those dogs actually “protect” the corner where our complex is. Now there is a complex cat named Shadow living on the grounds. Cycle of love and life.

Las Hijas De la Tostada Tulum. 🌮 Mexican, Caribbean, Seafood, in town off main road. ($$-$$$) 🍮 Our local scuba diving friends suggested this new spot for dinner. It seems we have been on a tostada tour of Tulum. Everything we eat has been great.

One of the best day activities to do in Tulum is visiting the Ruins of Tulum. We can’t emphasize enough that you try to get there when it opens. This is to beat the giant tour bus crowds and, more importantly, the heat. Early morning is also when the many, many majestic Iguanas are sunning themselves like Kings. After you walk around the luscious grounds, take the time to sunbathe and swim in the bright blue waters of The Tulum Sea. 📸 by and

As New Yorkers, we know good pizza. So a few years ago when we heard a killer pizza spot opened one block from Casa Sophia Tulum, we couldn’t wait to try it. We loved the outdoor jungle dining, the delicious pies and pastas, and the service is top notch. We try to hit this place up at least once per trip. Pizzeria Manglar Pizzeria tulum is open late night, has a small bar and will deliver to the Casa!
