I was recently asked "what is the cheapest way to get from the airport in Cancun to tulum?" This was my reply:

There is cheap and there is convenient - but you can't have both! Super convenient and very reasonable for a group is a private shuttle for up to 7 people and their luggage - runs $100-165USD ROUND TRIP, waiting for you at the exit of the airport terminal when you arrive, deliver you to the door in Tulum in about 1 hour 20 minutes. Book in advance online at https://www.cancun-airport.net/transportation.php. Cheaper and less convenient is the ADO bus. At about $13 per person each way and a limited number of direct departures each day at about 2 hours travel time (not including waiting for the next bus), or even longer with connections in PDC. A private shuttle quickly pays off if there are more than 2 or 3 traveling and you value your time visiting more than the savings!
Maybe it's just me but arriving at the airport at 7am after a "red-eye" flight and being greeted by my personal driver as I walk out the door then being delivered to the door of my condo in under an hour and a half is TOTALLY worth the price - even when I'm traveling alone!

Mexican Consumer Rights Card.

Before you leave home print out the card in the Photos section (https://www.facebook.com/pg/ManorTulumQueen1/photos/?tab=album&album_id=157977325607626). The card is meant to be two sided with an English version on one side and a Spanish version on the other. There are two versions, one black & white and one color, use whichever you like!

The card contains key sections of Mexico’s Federal Protection Law (Ley Federal de Protección al Consumidor) that are commonly violated, as well as the maximum fine. The purpose of the card is to educate the business, and of course, have the illegal charges removed.

Tulum Travel Seasons

High Season (late-December, January, February, March): The weather is phenomenal in the winter months, attracting travelers escaping the cold weather up north. Expect balmy weather every day, clear skies, and warm ocean waters. Crowds are at their heaviest now, especially in the weeks near Christmas and New Years’. If traveling during those couple of weeks, book my condo well in advance. Expect full capacity at the most popular attractions, including Coba, Chichen Itza, Sian Ka’an, and the adventure parks, and schedule these in advance, too, especially if your time is limited. Spring Break and Holy Week can add to the crowd crush but not nearly to the same effect as in nearby Cancun.

Shoulder Season (April, May, November, early December): A busy period but not as crazy as high season. I still recommend booking my condo as far in advance as possible. Rates don’t change much between high and shoulder season but it is easier to get the dates you want. Expect great weather now, especially in November, early December, and April. May can get uncomfortably hot if traveling inland, but remains pleasant near the beach. July and August see more European travelers than other times of the year.

Low Season (June, July, August, September, October): A great time to save money in Tulum, where visitors are noticeably fewer than in the peak months. Be prepared for some rain during these months, especially in June, September and October. Rain showers tend to pass quickly, leaving plenty of sunny hours almost every day. July and August are both hot and sticky, though considerably less rainy than the other summer months. The sea breeze does an excellent job of cooling things down, though, and there are several cenotes that stay refreshingly cold year round.

Why Tulum??

I have been vacationing in the Riviera Maya for 35 years, mostly on the island of Cozumel. A few years ago I made the decision to retire in the area, and as much as I love Cozumel, I knew living on an island wasn't for me. That left the mainland. I knew I didn't want to live in the busy cities of Cancun and Play Del Carmen further south. I wanted to be close to an international airport and all the amenities of a city but I also wanted to live somewhere with a small town vibe. Enter Tulum!

Tulum is an hour and a half drive south of the Cancun Airport and a 40 minute drive south of Playa Del Carmen. PDC is renowned for it famous 5th Avenue, full of world class shopping, restaurants, and entertainment. You will also find all the conveniences of home - Walmart, Sam's Club, and Home Depot as well as many other brand names familiar to those from the US.

I fell in love with Tulum the first time I visited. I still retains much of it's out of the way small town feel it became known for to the "in the know" bohemein crowd and the best beaches in the area. I the past 10-15 years Tulum as grown in popularity among the "Eco Chic" crowd and tourists from around the world. Along with the vast number of shops and restaurants in the bustling Tulum Centro, the "Beach Zone" features high end Boutiques, Restaurants, and Beach Clubs along one of the finest beaches anywhere in the world. If you get tired of relaxing on the beach, shopping, and trying the wide variety of cuisines Tulum is also a wonderful "home base" to discover the many Mayan Ruins, Cenotes, the stunningly beautiful Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve, and Theme Parks in the area!
