Casa Xixim

Casa Xixim Casa Xixim is a private ecoluxe beachfront villa located on tranquil Soliman Bay in Tulum. Xixim (pronounced "she-sheem") is the Mayan word for zero.

Fully staffed with concierge, private chef, housekeeping, and groundskeeper. We have been inspired by the abundant resources, lush flora and fauna, and beautiful landscape to aim for zero impact and a daily light footprint. The Mayan glyph for xixim/zero is a conch shell, which we used in our logo to construct the wings of the locally abundant and lighthearted butterfly. Casa Xixim is more than ju

st a vacation home, we hope it represents a new best-in-breed example for construction in this special part of the world. This home is not suitable for late night partying and we don’t provide things like TVs in the bedrooms. Instead, we offer epic ocean views, charming sea life, breezy palm trees, a few books, a deck of cards, a movie library on the big screen, and an unbelievably amazing night sky. Casa Xixim is all about you reconnecting, rather than disconnecting. We also require guests to honor house rules that ensure we are good neighbors and good earthlings.

Another week, another month, and here we are... welcome to August! At this rate I'm averaging about 1 blog post every 6 months, jajaja. And that's plenty! Joking aside, we hope you are all doing ok.

Something on our minds as well, what does it look like to re-open Casa Xixim? It’s been a learning process. And we’ve realized that we have a superpower. We Are Small. We are a small operation serving a single group of guests at a time in a secluded location. We consider this a key advantage in minimizing risk when compared to busy hotels and all-inclusives that service many guests at once. Being nimble allows us to easily make adjustments to increase everyone’s safety. We’ll be taking fewer bookings, increasing time between bookings, adjusting our cleaning protocols, and changing how our staff interacts with guests in person – without losing that special Xixim vibe. Let us know if you’d like more specifics and we’d be happy to share more details.

Bueno dias, amigos. According to the Mayan Calendar, today is Out of Time Day. It's the day between years, a no-day. What a gift! Yesterday was the last day of the year, and tomorrow is the first day of the new year. This moment of ‘no-day’ is a sacred pause and celebration before a new beginning. It's a reminder for all of us to tune into the now, slow down, spend time in nature, celebrate our collective efforts, and focus on what needs to change.
We are slowly reopening, carefully, hopeful. Awakening from a long nap.

To our Casa Xixim community -
We hope everyone is doing well and finds themselves in a safe space during this global crisis of Covid19. The last few weeks have been incredibly challenging and confusing for everyone. We built Casa Xixim on the ethos of bringing friends and family together but unfortunately during this time of social distancing and travel restrictions we are unable to operate in our normal capacity. It's our goal to be as proactive as possible to keep our guests and staff as safe as possible.

We have created a plan of action that will help all of us through this extremely difficult time. We have decided to temporarily close Casa Xixim to allow our staff to care for themselves and their families and self isolate for the sake of everyone. We believe this is the responsible thing to do given the guidance of governments and health experts.

We have made changes to our cancellation policy for March and April and have worked with affected guests to return more funds and provide rescheduling. We will evaluate May and beyond once we know more. We will continue to pay our staff to ensure they have the resources they need during this time.

Daily house maintenance and care will continue over the next few weeks by our live-in team, so that Casa Xixim will be glowing once we're ready to welcome guests back. We appreciate everyone's patience and support through this. Today, grasshopper is all of us .

More good news on the reduction of single use plastics!

California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Wednesday he had signed a law banning hotels from giving guests plastic bottles filled with shampoo, conditioner or soap.

The law follows similar actions by some of the world’s largest hotel chains. Marriott International has said it plans to stop using small plastic bottles in its hotel rooms by December 2020. IHG, which owns Holiday Inn, Kimpton and other brands, said it will eliminate about 200 million small bottles by 2021.

Hotels in the nation's most populous state will have to stop giving guests small plastic shampoo bottles under a new law set to take effect starting in 2023.
