Birdwatching Guide in Peninsular Malaysia

Birdwatching Guide in Peninsular Malaysia I am a Licensed Guide based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and have been providing my service to birdwatc Weng Chun greatly exceeding our expectations.

Testimonials from guests:

“You can’t go wrong with Cheong Weng Chun. He is knowledgeable, organized and passionate about birding and we thoroughly enjoyed our trip with him. Being avid birders, we wanted to spend some quality time in Malaysia birding. After much internet searching and advice from fellow birders, I found Weng Chun and our adventure began. Before we knew it we were off on what tur

ned out to be a very successful five-day trip. And best of all we made a new friend. We heartily recommend visiting Malaysia and employing Weng Chun as your guide.” - Ed & Sue (Massachusetts, USA)

“Weng Chun was a fantastic guide and we would highly recommend using his services. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Fraser's Hill and saw over 60 different types of birds and several different mammals as well! Weng Chun knew all the special locations to see particular birds and we didn't stop birdwatching even on the way home. He was able to see and hear things we could not - a real talent. We will take away a lot of knowledge from our day and try and imitate some of his skills when we return to birdwatching at home.” – Miguel & wife (Spain / United Kingdom)

"I had one of my most memorable birding trips in my life thanks to Wengchun with whom I went on a full day birding trip from KL to Frasers Hill. Wengchun picked me up early in the morning and it was a pleasure to chat with him. He is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. I told him that the red headed trogon was on my wish list and we birded the whole day and i got more than what i wished for !! On the whole wengchun is someone who would make any birders day great and i would whole heartedly recommend him to anyone who has a day to spare to see the avian wonders of malaysia !!!" - Dr Gopi (India)

"We had an enjoyable 3-day bird watching trip with Weng Chun at Fraser's Hill. We flew into Kuala Lumpur, and the pick up by Weng Chun was smooth. With Weng Chun's expert guiding (plus some luck!) we had the opportunity to have some pretty nice viewing of the Long Tailed Broadbills & the Silver-Breasted Broadbills. And surely had a good amount of time viewing the Red Headed Trogon on a misty morning. There were many other birds during the short trip, yet the three mentioned above were our favorites for our trip this time. Certainly the cool weather up at the hill was very refreshing too. Overall, we both appreciate Weng Chun's expertise and flexibility to make our trip so enjoyable including a stop to have Musang King durian! Well worth our flight from Hong Kong despite a very short trip. Thanks WengChun." - Carmen & Ken (Hong Kong)

"Weng Chun is a knowledgeable and energetic birder who worked tirelessly for seven days to get us on the birds. With well over 200 birds seen and heard, we were not disappointed. He knows the birds, the calls, and the locations very well, and he got us comfortably and efficiently from one spot to the next. Malaysia is a stellar location for tropical birding, and Weng Chun is an excellent guide and birding companion. Highly recommended." - Cliff (USA)

“I have tremendous respect for your knowledge, enthusiasm and tireless effort to find the birds. In addition you are a wonderful person, I very much enjoyed our time together over and above the birding. I wish you great success, I would highly recommend persons make use of your services and I hope to do the same again myself. I do hope I get a chance to return and I will definitely arrange some time with you.” - Daniel (USA)

“We enjoyed every minute of our trip with you. Not only was your organisational skills superb but your field knowledge was also excellent. The effort you have put into our trip was noticed and we appreciated your support and assistance. We will most certainly recommend you as a guide and when we are back in Malaysia will certainly make use of your services again. Keep on laughing.” - Johan & Laurette (South Africa / Australia)

“On June 22, 2011 my wife and I went birding with Weng Chun at Fraser’s Hill (Bukit Fraser) and environs near Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. We had a great birding experience. Weng Chun was a great companion, an excellent birder and is fully proficient in the English language and we have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone planning to do birding in the area.” - Rob & Ann (South Africa)

“I met up with Weng Chun, a bird guide out of KL, I’d recommend anyone who wants a guide for their time in Malaysia to get in touch with him.” - Andy (United Kingdom)

"It was my first time birding in Fraser’s Hill, and I felt a bit apprehensive due to the thick vegetation, which I thought might make spotting birds challenging. However, my concerns quickly vanished upon arrival, thanks to the guidance of Weng Chun. I had a fantastic time spotting and photographing birds, with 99% of them being lifers! This would not have been possible without Weng Chun’s expertise. He is meticulous, has a superb eye and ear for spotting birds, and is incredibly patient. His energy and dedication ensured that I got the shots I wanted. Thank you, Weng Chun, for making my trip memorable. I’m now in the process of filtering and editing my thousands of images!" - Razali 🇸🇬

Our targets are mainly birds and personally, I would say the highlights for this trip are the frequent sightings of hornbills (Rhinoceros, Oriental Pied, Black, White-crowned, and Wrinkled), Olive-backed Woodpecker, Striped Wren-babbler, Blue-headed Pitta, Black-crowned Pitta, Malaysian Blue Flycatcher, White-crowned Shama, Crested Serpent Eagle (Spilornis cheela pallidus) a subspecies to northern Borneo, Storm's Stork, Bornean Crested Fireback and Great Argus. I missed the latter 2 species, though.

"Planning our return from a November 2023 birdwatching tour to West Papua, my wife and I decided to spend a few days in Kuala Lumpur with a day of local birding. We connected with Weng Chun via the Internet and he offered exactly the kind of day we were seeking and we arranged to have him guide us for a full day of birding. Our day of birding around Kuala Lumpur with him was excellent. Weng Chun was intimately familiar with all of the local birding locations and expertly identified all of the birds we encountered both visually and vocally. We fully enjoyed our day, including our local lunch. His knowledge of local culture, history, and bird taxonomy was most appreciated, as well as his enthusiasm and sense of humor. We highly recommend him as a guide for any birders who plan to visit Malaysia." - Phil & Barbara, Maryland, USA
