#𝟰𝟳 𝗣𝗘𝗡𝗔𝗡𝗚 𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗡 & 𝗡𝗢𝗪

Constructed in 1926 by the renowned Straits Chinese architect, Chew Eng Eam, the 𝗠𝗮𝗷𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 initially served as a live-theatre venue at the behest of 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗻 and 𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗞𝗵𝗼𝗼 𝗦𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗘𝘄𝗲. The building proudly bore the Chinese inscription "𝗦𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗘𝘄𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗲".🏛️

By the 1970s, this establishment became 𝗣𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗴's 𝗽𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗺𝗮 equipped with sound technology, elevating the standards of Penang's theatre district, which included neighboring cinemas like Rex, Odeon, and Capitol, to global levels. The Majestic Theater primarily featured 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗺𝘀 from 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗼𝘀 such as 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝘄 𝗕𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 during its prime. 🎬📽️

It was also once a studio for the filming of the 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗣𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝗼𝗸𝗸𝗶𝗲𝗻 𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗺 based in Penang, 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗧𝗼 𝗠𝗲, by local director 𝗦𝗮𝘄 𝗧𝗲𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝗶𝗻.🎞️🤩

The 𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 Majestic Theater was then a 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 that hosted a myriad of events ranging from film festivals and cultural performances to art exhibitions and community gatherings.😇

The 'Bagan' began ferry services between Butterworth and Penang in 1938. During World War II, two of Penang's ferries, Tanjong and Kulim, were scuttled to prevent their use by Japanese forces but the 'Bagan' was captured.
