Lake Kaindy yang terletak di Taman Negara Kolsay, Kazakhstan

Menariknya mengenai tasik ni, di tengah-tengah tasik ada pokok-pokok pine, spesies tempatan yang setengah tengelam dan hanya kelihatan bahagian atas pokok sahaja.

Hasil daripada gempa bumi yang membentuk tasik/empangan semulajadi ini lalu menenggelamkan gaung beserta isinya. Oleh sebab air gunung yang memenuhi tasik ini sentiasa sejuk, batang-batang pokok yang telah mati ini, terpelihara daripada reput.

Tahun depan kita akan ke Kazakhstan dan Kyrgyzstan untuk trip 9 hari 8 malam. Ring road daripada Almaty, pusing ke selatan masuk Kyrgyzstan dan kembali semula ke Almaty.

Kita akan stay satu malam dalam Yurt moden dengan kemudahan central heating dan tandas dalam yurt tersebut.

- in Normal train experience, we will use different trains between the train legs, while in Special train, we will be using the same train and carriage for the whole trip.
- Cities covered in Special train tour: Moscow, Kazan, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk, Irkutsk, Ulaanbaatar.
Cities covered in Normal train tour: Saint Petersburg, Moscow, Kazan, Yekaterinburg, Irkutsk, Ulaanbaatar
- in Special train tour, you will have stops for day tours in Krasnoyarsk, Novosibirsk, and Kazan, while in normal train tour, train stop for day tour only in Kazan.
- in Special train no need to take your luggage out of train during day stop (city tours), while in normal train, you will need to take your luggage out, store in the bus during the tour in Kazan, and get back into different train.
- In Special train, we guaranteed daily shower and day room during cities day stops, while in normal train, there will be 36 hours without access to shower room.

Day 6: Kazan, Republic of Tatarstan

After an overnight train from Moscow, we will arrive in Kazan just at noon. Kazan is the capital of Republic of Tatarstan. Some may call it as the 3rd capital of Russia too. Kazan used to be in a different time zone than Moscow. An hour ahead at UTC +4 rather than now at UTC+3 same as Moscow.

Do you know that Muslim in Russia is about 14 millions population. Mainly contributed by muslim population in Republic of Tatarstan (around central Russia), and in North Caucasus regions (south Russia) mainly Republic of Dagestan and Chechen Republic, and many more smaller republics in Russia.

Back to Kazan, the main place to visit in Kazan is the Kazan Kremlin. There are the iconic Qul Sharif mosque, Soyembika leaning tower, and Annunciation cathedral inside the kremlin. This is an important city because Ivan The Terrible commissioned the St Basil cathedral after his first won his campaign against Kazan Khanate. Kazan has fallen, St basil cathedral was first erected, until his campaign ended with few other khanates have fallen too. (If Kazan never fall, maybe no St Basil cathedral??😅who knows)

Other than Kazan Kremlin, the Ministry of Agriculture Palace is also one nice touch to the city look. From here if time permit, you can walk along Kazanka river, or head to the Baumann Street. Here, you can buy souvenirs special to Kazan, and a lot of nice restaurants along this street.

We have another train to catch at midnight to Ekaterinburg. You can have your shower in the train just before you sleep.

Day 5: Moscow City – Overnight train to Kazan

Start your day with a good breakfast buffet, and take your time. We will check out at 12 and take all our luggage with us. Today is a shopping and easy day.

We are going to Izmailovsky Kremlin, a fairy tale like ancient building, but actually a newly built cultural center in the early 2000s. There is a flea market here where you can buy souvenirs. Don’t forget to bargain here.. People usually buy matryoshka dolls, fridge magnets, ushanka hat, Russian scarf, or just some t shirts.

Unfortunately, due to low number of tourists coming to Russia nowadays, there are few wings of market that is closed, but you still have plenty of choices to buy from. You can expect tourists to start flood in this summer and in coming years.

After that, head to Sparrow hill for the best view of one of the Stalin’s Seven Sisters buildings. The highest educational building in the world, Moscow State University. If you are visiting in season, there will be Tulips bed on the background. Stalin commissioned these 7 sisters building all around Moscow to demonstrate the triumph and regeneration of the USSR after the devastation of the Second World War, and rival the high-rises of capitalist cities.

Look, we are not going to sweet talk about it.. but can’t help it neither.. They are truly intricated and magnificent buildings.

In the evening, let’s check out Old Arbat street. Walking street full of café and restaurants, and also souvenir shops, but at a premium price. From here onwards, you will have plenty of time to roam around till our train departure at night to Kazan.

There are optional activities we can do as a group. Enjoy an evening 2.5 hours Moscow river cruise or hang out and people watching at the famous Gorky Park. (Reminiscing Wind of Change- Scorpions)

Day 4 Trans-Siberia: Moscow city

On board the train, you will be served with a breakfast with menu of your choice (only first class passengers can choose on the menu).

Morning arrival in Moscow city, we take you straight to the Red Square. Taking photo with the most iconic structure that screams to the world, “I’m in RUSSIA”. The Saint Basil Cathedral. We may spend at least until past noon here in Red Square. Apart from St Basil cathedral, there are the Moscow Kremlin, Lenin Mausoleum, changing of guards at the tomb of the unknown, State Historical Museum, Alexander Garden, GUM Mall, Bolshoi Theatre, Zaryadye Park with a hanging platform over Moscow River, and many more things you can explore.

Please take note that this square is a very big place and you will walk quite a lot on cobblestone road on the Red Square. No worries, there are plenty of cafés around for you to sit and people watching.

Check in to our 4* hotel in Moscow. Get your rest and refresh. Later in the evening, you can go for a walk at Sokolniki park or if you are fit enough, let’s go for an adventure into the Moscow’s underground world and explore their beautiful metro stations.

Best things about Russian metro systems are, you only pay once during entrance, regardless of where your destination is, or how long you stay in the networks or changing lines, plus, there are many beautiful stations worth visiting to take photos. We personally explored the networks for almost a day to check out coolest stations in the old and new lines. (they have 17 lines in total!)

Please note, there will be a lot of walks, up and down excalators, crowded people and fast walking crowds.

Saint Petersburg. - Overnight train to Moscow

Depending on season, we arrange a half day activity and another half as your free and easy time. Other than winter season, we will visit Petergof. It is the summer palace for Peter the Great, the founder of Saint Petersburg. Commissioned by him after he came back from a court visit in Versailles, France. Inspired by this, he wanted his own Russian version of Versailles.

There are upper garden and lower garden in Petergof. Upper garden may open a little later than the lower garden opening season. The main attraction of this summer palace is actually the Lower Garden with The Grand Cascade fountains that flows into the Gulf of Finland. This is place is a huge garden and you will need a good walking shoes with water. or maybe bring some snack if you plan to explore the whole place.

During your free time, optionally you can go for a visit to Winter palace and hermitage museum. Please take note, if you are museum enthusiast, half day visit is not enough as this is the second biggest museum in the world after the Louvre.

Or, you can explore St Petersburg's metro stations like Avotovo, Kirovsky Zavod and Narvskaya. These 3 stations are next to each other and on the same line from the metro station in front of our hotel.

Or, If you don't feel like walking too much later on, you can just cafe hopping or shopping for souvenirs along Nevsky Prospect. In Saint Petersburg, there is one particular souvenir that you can look for, Faberge Egg. An "imperial gift" for your love one. Find one with empty egg, and don't forget to add on some jewellery inside, ok😁

There are a few ways to know an egg is made in Saint Petersburg or china made. Will tell you in Saint Petersburg.

Later at night, you will board your first leg of Trans-Siberia train to Moscow. The train station is just across the street where you are staying. So, we will just drag our luggage and cross the street to the train station. please note the nice breakfast you see in the photo is only available for first class cabin passenger.

Let us share some insights for those who are going to Trans-Siberia trip, regardless which direction. We organise 15 days trip between Saint Petersburg, Russia – Ulan Bator, Mongolia. This is our Trans-Siberia East route stories:

Day 1-2
Arrival in Saint Petersburg the night before, we rest in a nice 4 stars hotel right along in the heart of city center. Explore Saint Petersburg city by visiting Palace Square featuring Winter palace and Hermitage, general staff building and Alexander column, entrance to St Isaac cathedral, and photo session at senate square with the bronze horseman statue in the morning. Watch and listen to the canon shot at noon at Peter and Paul fortress and later to Church of savior on spilled blood and Kazan Cathedral.

Saint Petersburg is also known as the Venice of the North or Windows to Europe. Come here and you will understand the reason to it. This hero city also survived the Leningrad siege during world war 2, the longest and most destructive sieges in history.
