Ingjaldshóll boasts a significant historical landmark - its church. Until the 19th century, this grand structure was the third largest church in all of Iceland. Remarkably, Eggert Ólafsson, a renowned natural scientist, poet, and explorer, described it as almost as large as the cathedrals at Skálholt and Hólar. The present-day church still serves the surrounding villages of Hellisandur and Rif and holds a unique title as the world's oldest concrete church.

Vik í Myrdal, or just Vik, is the southernmost village on the Icelandic mainland, located 186 kilometres from the capital Reykjavik. It's just next to Reynisfjara black sand beach.

Often visited by those traveling the popular sightseeing route along the South Coast, it is a wonderful place to stop, recharge, and, if you are taking your time, stay in Vik accommodations. Though it only has around 650 residents, the village is very popular amongst tourists for its convenience and beautiful surrounding landscapes.

Glacier lagoons are lakes that are filled with meltwater from an outlet glacier. The water from Jokulsarlon comes from Breidamerkurjokull, an outlet glacier of Europe’s largest ice cap, Vatnajokull. It stands out, however, because it also fills with icebergs breaking from the glacier, some of which tower several stories high.

These icebergs, other than their scale, are notable for their coloration. Although they are, as expected, largely white, most are also dyed electric blue in part, with black streaks of ash from eruptions centuries past.

In spite of being a rather recent formation, Jokulsarlon is the deepest lake in the country, with depths of 248 metres. With a surface area of 18 square kilometres, it is also growing to be one of the largest.

An aurora, also commonly known as the northern lights (aurora borealis), is a natural light display in Earth's sky, predominantly seen in high-latitude regions (around the Arctic and Antarctic). Auroras display dynamic patterns of brilliant lights that appear as curtains, rays, spirals, or dynamic flickers covering the entire sky.

Auroras are the result of disturbances in the magnetosphere caused by the solar wind. Major disturbances result from enhancements in the speed of the solar wind from coronal holes and coronal mass ejections. These disturbances alter the trajectories of charged particles in the magnetospheric plasma. These particles, mainly electrons and protons, precipitate into the upper atmosphere (thermosphere/exosphere). The resulting ionization and excitation of atmospheric constituents emit light of varying colour and complexity. The form of the aurora, occurring within bands around both polar regions, is also dependent on the amount of acceleration imparted to the precipitating particles.

Most of the planets in the Solar System, some natural satellites, brown dwarfs, and even comets also host auroras.

Hverir (also part of Namafjall or Namaskard) is a geothermal area with incredible landscapes. Located in North Iceland near Lake Myvatn, Hverir combines natural beauty and geothermal activity that leave visitors feeling like exploring a different planet.

Like other celebrated geothermal attractions in Iceland, like the Geysir geothermal field, Hveravellir, and Landmannalaugar, Hverir offers a unique opportunity for visitors to witness the Earth's geological processes in action.

The history of Hverir in Iceland is deeply intertwined with the region’s geological evolution and its inhabitants’ cultural heritage. Over millions of years, the area around Hverir has been shaped by volcanic activity, leaving behind a landscape rich in geothermal features.

Godafoss waterfall is a spectacular waterfall located in northeastern Iceland. The mythical waterfall's beauty is further enhanced by the waterfall's roots in Iceland's religious history.

The name Godafoss means either waterfall of the gods or waterfall of the 'godi,' an old word for a priest or a chieftain. Some say the reason for this name is rooted in a pivotal moment in Iceland's history.

When Iceland was first settled in the 9th and 10th Centuries, the vast majority (those who were not slaves, at least) were Norwegians who followed the Old Norse religion, worshipping deities like Thor, Odin, Loki, and Freya. However, after the Commonwealth was established in 930 AD, pressure to convert began to push from Christianising Europe.

By 1000 AD, it seemed that Norway would almost certainly invade if the country were to stand by its pagan beliefs. The issue was thus discussed at Thingvellir, where the parliament met once a year. The lawspeaker at the time, the Asatru priest (or godi) Thorgeir Ljosvetningagodi, was given the responsibility of making the decision.

It is said that Thorgeir lay under a fur blanket for a day and a night in silence, praying to his Old Gods for the right decision. Eventually, he emerged and said that for the good of the people, Christianity would be the official religion, but pagans could practice their beliefs in private.

To symbolize his decision, he returned to his home in north Iceland and discarded idols of the Old Gods into a beautiful waterfall, which would later become known as Godafoss. The history of this defining moment in Iceland's history is engraved in a stained glass window in the church of Akureyrarkirkja.
