Last night’s post on replacing well-worn crafts created varied responses. Some showed us how well the crafts they bought years ago had lasted, while others were horrified we suggested to compost end-of-life crafts.

Most of the indigenous crafts Volunteers help to sell are made from natural materials and are not meant to last forever. While some might be able to be patched up to extend its lifespan, the sad reality is that it will eventually biodegrade.

But you can and should return it back to the earth and it will enrich the soil. It has completed its lifecycle. Here’s an example of a tattered Temuan “lopa’ panjang” well-used for a year but beyond repair; it was then placed into her family’s compost heap and the resulting soil will help fertilise her plants.
