Tok Sheikh Well at the top of Gunung Jerai is often the focus of people visiting the tourist centre. Many who come to meditate consider the place sacred because the area is associated with the Arab priest, Sheikh Abdullah Al Qumairi, who converted the 9th Sultan of Kedah, Sultan Muzaffar Shah, to Islam in 1136 AD.

In fact, many people come to take water from Telaga Tok Sheikh because they believe it can be a cure for various diseases.

Gunung Jerai is known as the Hausberg of the town of Sungai Petani, the district capital of Kuala Muda. The highest peak in Kedah is Gunung Jerai, formerly known as Kedah Peak. Rising to 1,175 metres (3,854 feet) above sea level, it has been recognised as a site of early Buddhist influence, brought by spice traders from the Indian continent. The flat topography of the land surrounding present-day Gunung Jerai and archaeological evidence of ancient ruins seem to support this theory. Gunung Jerai has its fair share of stories and myths The summit of Jerai has been developed into a hill resort, and from there tourists can get to enjoy a wide angle view of the surrounding areas, including Penang Island and the rice fields of Yan District.

Daniel was lucky today as we got invited to a of Kirana,a 2 years old girl. A rare occasion in Kampung Baru,a village enclave in the heart of the city. A cukur jambul is where a child gets his first haircut. This is done between one month till 2 years old.

It was Daniel's first time to Kuala Lumpur having arrived from Singapore yesterday night. It was his 'rezeki' that we got invited to a Majlis Aqiqah cukur jambol ceremony today at Kampung Baru. It is rare to get invited to a Malay traditional ceremony where a child gets his or her first haircut. This is usually held at one month old up to 2 years old. They would serve biryani and mutton. If it's a baby girl,it is one goat offered. If it is a baby boy, it is two goats as sacrificial ceremony. Such traditions are still held on in this village enclave. ❣️ ,
