These young guys were confident to show off their strength by carrying a 50-kilo basket of Chinese tea at the oldest tea merchant during the Chinatown Cultural Walk last week. You can carry the baskets too and hear fun stories.

Keeping Kuala Lumpur’s Heritage Alive

Jane Rai is one of Malaysia’s longest-serving tourist guides. She created Kuala Lumpur Heritage Walks for her project ‘Keeping Kuala Lumpur’s Heritage Alive’. Jane, a Speaker and London-trained journalist, is keen to “giving something back” to the Malaysian tourism industry and the people of Kuala Lumpur, where she lives and works. She is keen to share her passion, skills, and knowledge.

Jane’s goal is to keep Kuala Lumpur’s heritage alive by featuring a series of carefully curated, heritage-based, guided walking tours in the city. She offers visitors to Kuala Lumpur an immersive, interactive experience. She wants them to gain an understanding of the culture of Kuala Lumpur and the historical legacy that has shaped the metropolis.

Jane has long believed that travelling is not just about crossing places off a list. For her, it’s about uncovering the authentic stories behind the facade and then narrating those stories. She incorporates fascinating details about people, places, and brings a unique and knowledgeable perspective to her tours.

Jane’s stories paint a picture of everyday life and extraordinary events. She brings visitors into contact with real-life communities and gives them a close-up view of the patchwork of activities that animate those communities. The partnerships that Jane has developed enhance her guests’ experience and add value for all concerned.
